Summary : drabble (Jackson's POV re: April's decision to allow Alex to be their housemate)
Rating : T for some swearing
He's chatting up a nurse from the third floor and is well on the way to getting lucky for the night when he notices her sidling up to Alex. The sight bothers him for some reason.
"I need 800 bucks."
"I told you if you're dumb enough to buy groceries I'm gonna eat them."
He tries to concentrate on what the girl next to him is saying but his attention is drawn unwillingly to the conversation taking place a couple of feet away.
"No, not for groceries… for a security deposit. We'll lose out on a really great three bedroom if we don't get it to the landlord today."
"Now you want to live with me?"
April wants to live with Alex? What the hell? Didn't she say she wanted to get away from him? And before he knows it, he finds himself making his excuses to Gina…or was it Tina? He really doesn't care anymore as he wanders over to their side without being too obvious about it.
"No. You're gross and a pig and skank magnet and you leave your dirty boy socks everywhere…keep going this way and you'll wind up old and alone and wandering the streets with some ancient form of syphilis…"
Although he is relieved to hear her assessment of their fellow resident, he finds himself putting an arm around her shoulder possessively. "All right, I think what she's trying to say is yes, she would be happy if you could be OUR roommate…" He emphasizes OUR just in case Alex has the wrong idea.
He does, however, move his arm downward to her back when he realizes that Alex seemed oblivious, as evidenced by his blithe reply of "Cool!" just as he walks away.
His relief, however, is short-lived when he catches the look on her face as she stares after Alex and finds himself asking, "So…we couldn't afford that nice apartment just the two of us right?" He hopes his discomfort doesn't show on his face.
"Hardwood floors and a washer dryer. What can I say? I want what I want." Her casual reply just before she walks away makes it clear to him that the thought that he might actually NOT want Alex to move with them doesn't even occur to her.
He sighs deeply and bites his lip to stop himself from calling her back, because for some reason, the thought of having to share her with Alex suddenly bothers him. A LOT! He frowns as he asks himself why it does and gives a start as he realizes the direction his thoughts had taken.
Share HER with Alex?
WTF?
He meant the apartment, right?
Right?
Not Apr...
Uh oh...
He's screwed!
