(Wrote this many months ago and finally typed it up. No plot; just written for fun and possibly some laughs. God bless Joss Whedon.)

"Okay," Kaylee grunted, fitting the hunk of metal back into place. "I didn't have everything I needed, but that was pretty strong twine, so with luck it'll stay until we can get supplies." She ran her hand over the roof of the cockpit and stepped down the ladder.

"It'll have to last a while," Mal affirmed. "We won't be docking for another-"

His sentence was cut off as Kaylee lost her footing on the step above the pilot's seat. There was a simultaneous 'crash' and 'crunch.' "Ah! My gorram back!" Kaylee groaned hoarsely.

"Damn!" Mal hissed, helping her stumble into the seat. Her back was scratched and bruised. "You fell right on Wash's toys!"

"I know, I felt them," Kaylee moaned.

"I told him they were a stupid idea! I knew someone would get hurt cause of them. Sure, I'd thought I'd be hurting him, but…"

Kaylee sat up, stretching her back gingerly, when she gasped, eyes wide.

"What's wrong? Something feel broken?"

"No—look!" she shrieked, pointing to Wash's prehistoric pals. "Look what I did to them!" She picked up two examples and shoved them in Mal's face.

One's neck was bent completely sideways; the other had two stumps for feet. "So? Look what they did to you!"

"This is horrible!" she continued, near tears. "It's not enough that they were wiped from Earth-That-Was, now I'm bringing the extinction of their only progeny!"

Mal was no biologist, but he had a hunch that hunks of plastic were not descended from funny lizards. Still, Kaylee was close to an emotional breakdown, so Mal tried to comfort her. "Er… there's some glue in the crate over there." Kaylee immediately began applying her mechanical skills. "Anyway, maybe they're still on Earth-That-Was. They could have stayed after we left."

Kaylee froze at her work and looked up. "What?"

"I'm sure some species survived. Dinosaurs were tough, right?"

"Mal, dinosaurs went extinct millions of years before we left Earth-That-Was."

"What?" Mal demanded, his attention fully engaged. "Why? And if they were that pathetic, why does Wash care?"

Kaylee left her glue-job to dry and grabbed a few dinos that she'd missed (the ones, we must assume, who were destined to evolve into birds). "Okay, so these are dinosaurs, right, masters of Earth…"

Jayne strode into the cockpit. "Mal, a ship we can't identify has been tailing us. What…"

"…So all the dinosaurs were either crushed, suffocated, or starved, and were seen no more."

"Okay," Mal said slowly. "But if that's Earth," he pointed to where the dinos sat, "and those are the dinosaurs," he pointed to the dancing toys Kaylee held, "what is the meteor?"

"I am, Mal. I am the meteor."

Jayne turned back down the hall. It could wait.

(Originally, instead of a crate, the glue was in a glove box. Luckily, Ali pointed out that Fireflies were unlikely to come equipped with glove boxes for the pilot's convenience. XD

Please forgive any other mistakes, it's been too long since I've seen Firefly, and this was just written for some cheap fun. Thank you for reading!)
