Eponine smiled to herself as she walked back to the barricade. Marius was there, and she wanted to see him so bad. As she walked past a few trees, she looked at the river. It was murky and sludgy. Basically, it was a typical river found in Paris. The barricade was now in site. Humming a little song to herself, she ran towards the barricade. "Marius!" she yelled, running towards the barricade.
She stopped suddenly, putting her hand up to her chest. When she moved it from her chest, it was stained red. Red with blood. "Oh shit," she muttered looking up to the sky. She couldn't die yet. She had to get back to the barricade. At least, she had find her Marius. Eponine fell to the ground, clutching her chest. It really hurt to be shot. Looking up, she saw a concerned young man look down at her. His red vest stood out amidst the dark rubble of the barricade.
"Hey! This girl's been shot!"
"Perfectly fine to notice," Eponine said, biting her lip. She wasn't in the mood to take crap from random barricade boys. "Where's Marius?"
"Right here," the striking young blonde said, as Marius made his way through. Eponine smiled serenely. She really wasn't in much pain anymore. Whether it was Marius, the rain, or the fact that she had lost at least one quarter of her blood she felt Eponine felt no pain.
"Ohmygod'Ponineyerbleedingandcrap!" Marius yelled, eyes wide as saucepans. Eponine frowned. She loved her Marius, but he was a spaz at times. Marius looked from Eponine, back to that young man, then back to Eponine. "Ohmygod, ohmygod, whatdoIdoEnjorlashelpme!"
"Hey, it's raining," Grantaire yelled.
"Gah! I already hab a code," Joly yelled, retreating back into the safety of the wine-shop.
"You idiots, I'm dying here!" Eponine yelled, pointing to her bloody shirt. "I'm freaking dying! I mean, you couldn't even get more de-" She stopped in mid-word, keeling over.
"She's dead." Marius said, suddenly quiet.
"Not yet!" Eponine said, straightening up. She scowled, as she clutched at her middle. Were all men such idiots, or just the ones she knew? "Holy SHIT this hurts."
"Well you're shot," Enjorlas (who was apparently Blondie) said, point-blank. "There's a bullet embedded in your flesh."
"Wait a minute, she's not dead!" Marius said, sighing happily.
"Of course I'm not yet de-" Eponine keeled over again. Both of the boys looked at her for a moment. Bending over, Enjorlas poked her in the stomach. She didn't move. Marius immeaditly launched into grieve mode, then kind of forgot about her. He launched into a search for his rifle. Enjorlas remained silent, then turned to the revolutionaries, all looking at the dead girl.
"She was the first to fall at the barricade. We'll fight for her! From now on, the fight is for...for...for what's-her-name!"
"FOR WHAT'S-HER-NAME!" the revolutionaries yelled in unison.
