The wind blew silently as he made his way across the dark open field. Night had just fallen but the full moon had lightened the area as if it was a baseball field. Marble and granite statues decorated the field, giving him a strange sensation as if someone was watching him. With his hands buried deep in his pockets, he slowly made his way to the center of the field where a tall, thick, marble tower stood. A small sigh escaped his lips and he watched as his breath floated away from his body. He stopped and stared down at the name engraved on the side of the tower:
Frederick J. Dukes
The gravestone was beautiful and giant; a donation from Charles Xavier. A large grave for a large man; Pietro had joked with dark humor that day. His heart felt heavy as he thought of the days when the Brotherhood wasn't a fashion statement, but a group of misfits who knew what you were going through.
The wind blew quickly through his messy brown hair and excaped quietly back into the night. As he felt his toes begin to grow numb, he realized it was time to go.
He had sworn against having the fate Fred had shown to the world. True horror in the eyes of many, but a blessing to the horrible few who had hated his kind.
As he walked away from the dark memory of his friend, his thoughts turned to the present. Utopia, as the humans called it. A Paradise, free from mutants and their disgusting presence. A glimmer of hope for humans, and a look into the cruel and pitiful life of the future mutant. Where will all the mutants go when the Utopia's cover the planet?
As he reached his old beaten up jeep, he looked back. A small and weak smile fell upon his face as he noticed that Fred's grave was bigger then the rest. A frown quickly replaced the smile as he remembered. Fred: the first mutant suicide of many.
The old jeep started with a groan and he stared down at the steering wheel. The future of mutants was coming to an end. According to Magneto, the war was going to come as soon as one stupid mutant made their move.
He was that stupid mutant.
(THE NEXT MORNING)
"Now we're going to head over to Richie live from the sight,"
"Thank you Linda. As you can see, Utopia has become a mountain of rumble. According to officials the earthquake last night was a perfect 10 on the Richter scale! So far there are no found survivors and.....wait, wait, I've just gotten word that a mutant was involved!"
"No suprise there Richie,"
"Yes Linda. Apparently within the rumble they found a mutant! Barely alive but still breathing. He has been rushed to a small hospital for mutants outside of the city limits. No mention of a name but they have given that he was young and most likely in his early twenty's."
"Well thank you Richie. We will be keeping you all informed within the next few days. This is Linda March, eyewittness news."
