An Almost Kiss
Link jumped off of his Loftwing, using the Sailcloth that Zelda had given him. He was currently in Skyloft, visiting his old home for he had been on the Surface for far too long with his childhood best friend, Zelda.
He missed Skyloft.
After his long adventure, he hadn't even the time to go back and visit all of his friends and his old home. Some of the people of Skyloft had decided to stay on the Surface while others just stayed up in the endless sky, in Skyloft.
Link's feet touched the ground and he neatly folded Zelda's Sailcloth, putting it away when he was done. He expected to hear Fi's voice, but knew that she was not there anymore. It saddened him to no end, but he reminded himself that she would always be his companion even if she wasn't there.
The male released a heavy sigh and started to recall his adventure with Fi. It had been incredibly dangerous, but it was very worth it. In the end, he got Zelda back and defeated Demise. Everything was peaceful again. Just thinking about all the things he had been through made him very nostalgic. All of those memories swam through his mind, showing him a gallery of past images and feelings he had experienced.
"Link?"
Link halted in his tracks, turning around to see Peatrice approaching him from out of nowhere. He was a little bit flummoxed to see the female, but elated as well. She was a friend and he hadn't seen her in quite some time.
"Peatrice, it's good to see you." Link greeted her in a very friendly manner.
"It's good to see you again too, Link," Peatrice commented, standing in front of the male. "I thought you were never going to return!"
Link shook his head. "Nonsense."
"Well, I'm glad you came back." Peatrice talked quietly, her voice having a certain tone to it that Link couldn't quite decipher.
"How've you been?" Link decided to ask.
"Better now that you're here." The female responded immediately.
Link stared at her for a long moment, ruminating on her words. The young man decided that Peatrice's words had some underlying meaning, like she was trying to tell him something without really voicing the real thing that was on her mind at the moment. It was confusing.
"Is that so…?" Link heard himself say.
"It is so." Peatrice answered before stepping forward and closing the gap between them. She leaned forward towards his face and Link's eyes got huge. The girl stopped, their noses almost touching.
Link's heart hammered against his chest and he could feel her breath upon his lips. Her breath had the scent of strawberries. For a minute, he felt like moving forward and getting rid of the remaining space between him, but immediately dismissed the absurd thought.
Peatrice suddenly leaned away, face flushing. "I-I'm sorry. Goodbye, Link!" She turned around and hurried off, head bowed and eyes shut tight. Link worried that she would run off of Skyloft and fall down to the Surface.
The male really did want to go after her, but found himself staying where he was, flummoxed and uncertain.
Link knew she was going to kiss him.
And for some reason…
…that made him smile.
