I do not own Hetalia: Axis Powers, I just enjoy writing about the characters. This is likely not historically accurate.
A lone figure stood proudly against the backdrop of heavy gray clouds on a magnificent galleon that leapt through the waves. He was clad in a brilliant read coat that seemed to shine even with the lack of sunlight. His bright green eyes stared intently at the horizon, obviously waiting to spot something. He had sent his crew below so that none could spoil his moment of reflection.
He was finally returning to his New World colony and he would be the first to see land on this journey. It was his right. Years, too many, had passed since he had been able to visit this area and the young child who personified this latest conquest. The boy was special, but he still could not neglect his position as an empire to coddle him. Other countries were constantly encroaching on his territories and he would not stand for it. However, the constant battles were beginning to wear on him and he taken this opportunity of relative peace to escape for a short time.
On the gloomy horizon, land had finally become visible. His heart quickened despite himself and he inwardly cursed the feelings of happiness and relief. He had never meant to become attached to his colony. They were to be used for their resources and that was that. He prided himself on his ability to detach his emotions, but this boy had slipped into his heart like no one before. Perhaps it was because this blue-eyed child had joined him of his own free will, rejecting the frog to comfort him instead.
Wiping the emotions from his expression, the captain barked harshly at the crew to warp the ship into shore. Frantic movements betrayed their fear at angering their country, whether they knew his true identity or not. At last, he was able to set foot in the New World.
Striding forward with the arrogance that could only be justified by total ownership, he made his way to his colony home while noting the booming progress of his settlement. His home, which had once been a rough log cabin, was now nearly as modern as the houses of London. Before he could reach the door, a golden-haired boy of roughly ten years old burst out and flung his arms around the older man. The empire stiffened in shock as this oddly familiar but unknown child greeted him so enthusiastically.
"Mr. Britain, you finally came back!"
How could this boy be his sweet little colony? He knew that the settlement and others like it had been growing, but this rate of growth was astounding. He felt a pang of sadness that he had missed so much of his childhood. He had been gone for far too long, but his colony didn't hold a grudge at all.
A paternal feeling of warmth, foreign but not unwelcome, swept through him. He silently vowed he would never stay away this long again.
"That's right, lad, I'm back. Look how much you've grown! I promise I will come back more often from now on."
As the young boy smiled sweetly, Arthur Kirkland knew all his battles and the long journey had been worth the effort.
I hope you enjoyed this. I ended up just writing this in my history class, which I have a feeling is going to give me many ideas and chances to write, so I should be able to post more. This was unbeta'd so please let me know if I made any mistakes so that I can fix them. Please review! ~Amaya
