This is what I wanted to happen between Damon and Elena in episode 3x10, where she was sad and Damon calmed her down.

Elena stood in front of the sink and wrung the blood soaked towel in her hand. The smell and sight of blood was already making her woozy.

Behind her she heard footsteps coming towards her. She already knew who it was.

"Did you get rid of him?" She asked Damon.

"Yeah," Damon answered. "I hid him in a cellar."

"What about Alaric?"

"Took care of him too. He'll be fine" Immediatly after he finish his sentence, he heard violent scrubbing. He started getting worried about her. "How are you?"

She sighed. "I think I got most of the blood off the porch" She was still scrubbing violently.

He sighed. "Elena," She didn't turn around to look at him. "Look at me," He was pleading her to. After hearing a long sigh from her, he saw her turn around and finally face him. "It's going to be okay."

Elena only forced a little smile on her face, before setting the towel in the sink and turning back at him. "I have to tell you something" She says as she moves towards him.

"I made a deal with Klaus. I gave him Rebekah-"

"What?" Damon quickly responded. "No, no, no, you did not do that." He waited for her to say something but she said nothing. "Elena she's going to come and kill you-"

"No she won't-Klaus won't let her because he needs me-"

"And now you trust him?"

"Of course not. I don't trust him. But what other choice do I have? I don't trust Stefan. You think he's going to just give up the coffins?"

Damon sighed a little under his breath. "My brother is sorta running his own show right now."

"Yeah and my brother just chopped off someone's head." She shook her head. "That's not right...it's not fair-he's sixteen years old-he shouldn't have to live like this." She turns around walks back to the sink.

Damon could hear her sniffles and knew she was on the verge of crying. "Elena-" He started but she cut him off by turning on the water and washing her hands.

"There has to be another way-we need to fix this"

Damon could hear her voice cracking. He wanted to do something for her to make her stop crying. It pained him to see her cry. He knew what she needed. He hesitated before making his move, scared that she might reject him. He moved closer to her and wrapped his arms around her, giving her a hug. It wasn't something he did on a regular basic, but to stop her from crying he would do anything.

He stood there hugging her from behind and listening to her cry. He turned her around to face him and gave her another hug, pulling in his chest and wrapping his arms around her tighly.

She stood there in his arms crying.

"It's going to be okay, Elena."

She shakes her head in his chest. "No it won't. Klaus won't stop until he gets his family back and that means that no one is safe." She paused. "I can't lose anyone else I love. I just can't. My heart can't take it."

"Hey, you won't. I'll fix this Elena."

"I just can't do it anymore Damon."

"Yes you can. If you give up now Elena, it will mean that all the people that died to make sure you lived all did it for nothing. You are the strongest human I have ever met. Don't be so quick to give up."

Elena slowly nodded in his chest.

"No more crying" Damon said as he heard her cries growing fainter. She nodded again and just stood there wrapped in Damon's embraced. She closed her eyes and the noise in the room stops. All that was left was hers and Damon's breathing. She felt safe in Damon's arms. And that was the first time she felt safe at all this week. She was glad that in all the time of crisis, Damon was always there to help her when he could. And that was one of the things she loved about him.

I loved this scene after the kiss. I felt like it needed more comfort than a simple face touch. How I wished that Damon did actually hug her.
