He loved his job but sometimes at his darkest moments, he hated how much it took from him. It took him from her, he may have loved her more than his job but he was never destined to know. It took his heart and broke it into two, she made him a better man but now he was only a shell. He wondered what would have happened would they have been reunited together after death, but he never believed in that kinda thing, she did. It had taken his child, he was going to be a father, he hadn't known until it was too late, he doubted that she had or she wouldn't have taken the risk.
As he sat confined to his hospital bed he wondered what would happen if he quit, it could take no more from him, but he knew that no matter how much it took he would always come back to it because he loved his job too much. More than himself even.
