She drew her sweater tightly around her skinny torso. Ever since Hermione unexpectedly left, she was appointed as Gryffindor prefect. Personally she hated it, the rounds, the meetings, the late night patrols. Sure, it came with the added bonus of docking points, but really, when you had to keep looking over you shoulders for the Carrows every time temptation struck, it wasn't that much of a benefit.
Still, she was alive, and that was more than many could say.
Tonight, she was assigned to patrol the dungeons until midnight. She was obviously going to skive off, her beauty sleep was more important than some random snogging couple.
Cursing herself for not bringing her cloak, she walked past the entrance to the Slytherin Common Room. A lone red poinsettia flower lay on the cold stone floor. She bent down and grimly picked it up. It didn't seem to be cursed. She carefully put it in her pocket. It was the only reminder of the upcoming holiday season. Only a few days remained until Christmas, yet the castle had never felt so un-magical.
Parvati heard voices coming from the Slytherin Common Room, and they were nearing her, so she quickly hid behind a suit of armor.
"Drakey, darling, it's fine, it'll only be for few days..."
"Pansy, look, I already told you, I'm not interested."
A sudden flash of inspiration struck Parvati. She raised her wand quietly and conjured a sprig of enchanted mistletoe. She hoped the spell would be strong enough.
Pansy interrupted Draco's spiel. "Look! Mistletoe!" she pursed her lips expectantly.
Draco looked up, panicked, and made to move out of the entrance. "Sorry, I er, forgot, I've still go that...that Muggle Studies Essay...and, er..." but as soon as he tried to move out of the doorway, he was propelled by an invisible force back into Pansy.
Parvati stifled a giggle from where she lay crouched in the shadows.
"Erm, okay, I suppose I..." Draco was cut short by Pansy's mouth crashing down on to his own.
"Gross. I didn't come to see this. Eugh!" Parvati covered her eyes, but then, another brilliant idea struck her.
Slowly, she took aim and whispered "Densaugeo." She hoped it hit its mark, but with one eating the other's face, it was difficult to make sure.
A shrill shriek and a disgruntled growl told her she had hit her target.
"No, no! Whass 'Appemim doo me?" Pansy tried to articulate through her beaver teeth. "Noooo! my sees!"
Parvati couldn't resist and charmed Pansy's leggings to flash, "Kiss me! I'm a Gryffindor!" every time she moved.
What was even funnier was Draco's face as he tried, and failed, to stifle his laughter. Clearly he found the whole deal very amusing.
Pansy stomped angrily away around the corner, but Parvati jumped out from behind the suit of armor and blocked her way.
"Out after curfew, Parkinson? Twenty points from Slytherin."
Pansy's eyes narrowed, and she angrily said, "You!" only it sounded more like "Foo!" due to the fact that her teeth were well past her collar now.
Her nostrils flared as she tried to insult Parvati, to no avail because it sounded like gibberish. When Pansy finally realized she was only embarrassing herself further every second she stood there, she stomped away.
Parvati laughed all the way back to Gryffindor tower. Wait till she told Lavender and Padma. The Weasley twins would have been proud.
"Who did this to you, Miss Parkinson?" Madam Pomfrey asked in a weary voice. She did not appreciate been woken up in the middle of the night simply to reverse a hex that a sixth year should have been able to do.
"It was Parvati Patil, with Densaugeo, near the Slytherin Common Room!"
