I thumbed my way through some newspaper clippings and sighed. It had been almost a year since I had arrived to this kattish dimension. Claws, paws and fangs was still not something I was used to. Neither were hairballs, grooming and a swishing tail. I laughed silently to myself and continued reading the daily Megakat newspaper, kats Eye News. After a few moments, I lazily stretched on the couch I was sitting on and looked over at the TV, which was on mute. There was a female kat talking on there, showing the weather. Looked like it was going to be in the mid 80's all this week with a chance for scattered showers. I could have been at home... but instead I was at Dr. Hackle's home, as his guest. It had been so, since I arrived here.
My arrival here had been brilliant if for a moment.
It had all started when I decided to attend an event at one of the biggest science labs in the city I lived in. This lab called Stellar Dynamics for Future Energy had successfully created an artificial star twice. Although only several fractions of an inch in diameter, the power scale on it was enough to power a continent for 10 minutes, with just a few seconds of life.
The third time Stellar Dynamics would "birth" a star, they would attempt to keep it "alive" under intense laser fire for at least a minute. The amount of public attention from making this media-accessible would grant this company untold amounts of funding. It was in this information, that I wanted to witness this historic event.
Everything had started out normal - we were all behind huge blast doors, with our goggles on, watching huge lasor cannons slowly getting into place to shoot at a precise point... at first there was nothing, then a spark. The spark quickly grew to be so brilliant no one could start at it.
What no one counted on was...
...on the other end of existence, another being had been trying to do the same thing, at the exact same time. The big difference was this life form was a kat, and not a human. it was either fate or chance that both artificial stars had lined up and instead of burning out independently, had managed to create a link between them. The link lashed out for the closest person which happened to be me.
The link between the stars only lasted about 30 seconds, but it was more than enough to rip me from one dimension to the next and leave flabbergasted spectators on the human and end one very surprised kat doctor on the other end.
That was the last time I would see humankind for awhile. I remember being told that when I had come through that portal that I had been pretty beaten up. Almost all my fur had been singed off, and I looked like I had been beaten. Thankfully I had no broken bones.
On Dr. Hackle's side this had completely totaled his equipment, which included some of the most powerful lasers known to kat-kind. It seemed like a one-way trip.
I remember coming too and thinking I had landed in a weird version of Planet of the Apes or thinking that I had to be high. The kind doctor had been very forthcoming and after hearing of my situation, offered me a place to stay. Sure the Enforcers of this city came around a few times to see what all the fuss was about but Hackle had managed to explain the situation to Commander Feral and keep my origins a secret to everybody except for his select staff, the Deputy Mayor and the Swat kats.
I was very thankful for not much publicity. Sadly the only points of proof I had that I had even been human was a camera that had digital photos from a vacation I had recently been on, and a military ID. I looked almost nothing like the photo now. Somehow between jumping dimensions, I had been converted into my kat equivalent.
