When I was little, I would pretend to be someone else.
Helping my daddy with his work, I would pretend that I was on a spaceship- an alien spaceship, that was more exciting- way out in the black, years away from home, and my job was to keep the ship running. I wasn't alone out there though, I had friends, and a boyfriend, and they were all different kinds of aliens, but they were all kids, like me. There was a broken robot, and maybe a grown-up or two, because we were a family out there, and every family needs parents.
We had all kinds of adventures, out there in the black of my imagination. Sometimes it was funny and sometimes it was scary, but everything always came right in the end.
I had a different name, a name that I much preferred to Kaywinnet Lee.
My name was Catalina.
