Oh how I love traditional Japanese clothes. The light yukata worn in the summer, during sleep, or after a bath.
The pretty floral and cross hatched patterns of the heavier cotton winter kimono that looks so cozy and warm.
Cords, obi's, sandals, drawstring bags, tabi socks, haori. I love them all. The beautiful brocades dyed and painted patterns on silk. Ah, such wonderful fabric.
But, of all these, hakama, you are my one true love. I don't know why. There's something about the way the sash sits around the hips and hangs in a loose bow in front. The peek of kimono on the side between the gap is distracting. The perfectly straight folds when standing. The way they billow when one walks and the swishing sound it makes. Ah…
"….hakama." mumbled Father Edwards as his he lolled in his sleep on a pew with drool dribbling down his chin and smiling.
"Mommy, what's hakama?" asked a little girl as they passed.
"Never mind honey. People who sleep in churches during the day aren't normal."
