The young girl held her arms out, listening to the sounds of the handmaids moving around her as they dressed her from her bath. This was Toph's regular routine for as far back as she could remember. She would wake with the sound of the birds beyond her window and the feeling of the sun on her skin. The handmaids would already be waiting for her, their heartbeats and breaths barely audible in the early morning. They were lead her to the bathhouse silently, stripping off her night clothes before scrubbing her from head to toe before leading her back into her room.

Toph sighed as they turned her around, a soft brush running through her long hair while another maid began patting her face and lining her eyes. She didn't even have to lift a finger as they did their job, ensuring that she was presentable before she met her mother and father for breakfast, and that was the problem. She wasn't as helpless as they thought she was. However, she had learnt long ago that her opinion didn't matter and it was better for everyone if she simply went along with it.

Soon, they led her out of her room, tracing the familiar path through the halls of her home towards the dining room.

"Good morning, dear," her mother said as she took her seat at the table.

She bowed her head to her parents before picking up her spoon. At least they allowed her to feed herself.

"Ah ah ah," her mother said before she felt the spoon leave her hand. "I wouldn't want you to possibly burn yourself, dear. Jin will feed you."

Toph opened her mouth to say something, to demand at least some independence or contribution to her own life. But, she stopped herself instead, bowing in her mother's direction before turning to the girl on her right. Maybe one day, she would do something, she would show them she wasn't weak, but for now, if was better if she simply went along with it.
