Excerpt from: Harry Potter and the Wizarding War

"Ron . . ."

"Yes" he answered as he stopped halfway to the portrait hole. Hermione smiled as she looked at him, the tiniest bit of fear lurking beyond her eyes. There was no one else in the common room for there was a Quidditch match taking place. Hermione and Ron had stayed behind so Hermione could get her scarf before they left; though they weren't going to watch the match . . .

"Don't do this. Please . . ." Her voice had become almost a whisper.

"I have to Hermione! Snape has joined the Death Eaters! He could be helping plot to kill Harry . . ." though Ron's words were harsh, his face was soft and loving.

"You can't do this on your own . . . it's too dangerous and they can easily kill you! Ron Please don't take this risk . . . wait, please- till Dumbledor can help us." She pleaded on the verge of tears.

"It's now or never . . . come with me- we can get Neville and Luna and Ginny . . . please- we have to do this- for Harry!" he begged.

"Harry is protected for now . . ." She stepped closer and looked into his eyes. She could see he was scared for their friend.

"For now . . . but that doesn't mean tomorrow- he's my best friend Hermione! We have to do this!" She smiled a tear falling slowly down her cheek. "I know we do . . . but, look what happened last time we . . ."

Ron placed his thumb on her cheek and wiped the tear away. "Hermione- we handle it then and if - . . . we can handle it again . . ." Hermione's hands weaved under Ron's arms and she hugged his middle, his embrace reassured her.

"I'm sorry . . . Let's do it! For Harry!" she said looking up into Ron's blue eyes which suddenly seemed so much brighter. He leaned down and kissed her soft pink lips. She smiled as he pulled away and knew that Ron truly cared . . . for her . . . for Harry.

A/n: This is from a much later chapter. Yes, obviously Ron and Hermione become more than friends in this fanfic and finally kiss as we have just seen. Harry finds someone who comforts him as well- you can only guess who it is for now (no- its NOT cho chang).
