Prologue
The streets of Sunnydale were quiet. A young girl walked down those streets. She turned into an alley, slowly picking her way through the garbage. A laugh! The girl stopped in her tracks and looked around slowly.
"Hello! Is anyone there?" she shouted into the darkness. Silence! She started on her way again.
"Hey, babe! Wassup?" came a voice from behind her. The girl turned to see a teenage boy emerge from the shadows.
"What's it to you?" came the witty reply.
"Ooh! Feisty are we? I like 'em that way," the boy said, advancing on the girl.
"You stay away from me," she said nervously backing off. For a moment the boys face was hidden in the shadow. When he came back under the light of street lamps, he was different. He was a vampire!
He came at her, knocking her to the ground. A scream cut through the evening hair as the girl fought to get free. The vampire's mouth drew closer and closer to her neck. She could feel its hot breath on her skin making the hairs on the back of her neck stand on end. She shut her eyes tight and prepared for the sudden pain, but it never came. She opened her eyes to see a blonde girl, about her age, fighting with the vampire. She crawled into a corner and watched.
The vampire delivered a punch to her jaw and the girl was knocked of balance for a second. She righted herself and delivered one of her own. This only got the vampire more riled up. He made a grab for her neck. She ducked and stabbed his foot with the nail she found lying on the ground. The vampire let out a sort of half scream; half roar but didn't pause for his injuries. He spun around to come face to face with a silver gun pointed directly at his head. This only made him laugh.
"You're kidding, right? You think that gun will kill me. What happened to the stake?" the vampire said, mocking the blonde.
"Do you know what this is?" she asked calmly.
"Yeah! A bad idea that'll only make me want to kill you more!" the vampire answered, still mocking the blonde.
"Haven't you ever heard of a Banishing Gun?" she asked, smiling wickedly. Suddenly, the vampire was filled with fear. He started to slowly back off but didn't get very far.
"I guess you are as stupid as you look," she said. A gunshot rang through the air followed by the vampires scream. The blonde watched as the vampire's body and bones turned to dust and slowly disappeared with the wind. She turned to look at the girl huddled in the corner. She looked her over, checking for any major injuries but couldn't find any.
"Find a safe route home," she said and made her way out of the alley, daring any demon to try and test her power.
