After any other night of partying until dawn on a Saturday morning, Seamus would have normally headed up to bed to sleep off his hangover - like any proper Gryffindor does. This night however, when the music stopped and the common room emptied, he spotted Fred disappear out of the common room entrance.
It was unusual enough that Seamus took pause on his way to the boys dormitory stairs. He hesitated for a short moment before fixing a catch in his skirt and following quickly.
With half a mind to keep quiet he left his heels at the common room entrance before rushing after the redhead on bare feet. The castle was chilly this early in the morning, especially this early in the spring.
It didn't help his situation that the party had a costume theme as planned by Angelina and Katie. He wouldn't have been Seamus Finnigan if he hadn't gone all out raving mad - and so there he was wandering through the castle in a bunny costume.
Seamus sighed as he pulled up the front of the leotard with slight annoyance. Not even five minutes into the party, Dean had informed him that the outfit kept slipping below his nipples. It wouldn't have been that embarrassing if he hadn't found Fred staring.
He supposed that was why he was doing this, following his upperclassmen. Part of him was hoping that this was Fred's plan and that at any moment he would be pulled into an alcove and ravished. The other part was genuinely concerned.
Just as he turned a corner, he watched as Fred disappeared up the Astronomy Tower stairs and he sighed. It was sure to be even colder up and out in the open at the top.
He walked up the stairs carefully, noticing when halfway up the stairs they were suddenly warm. The heat coming off the stairs almost burned, as his feet were freezing; but his heart leapt into his throat.
The stairs were obviously cast over in warming charms - charms that he hadn't cast. As he came out at the top of the stairs, he walked up the last set of short stairs into the observatory.
Confusion rushed over him as he glanced around, Fred nowhere in sight. He walked around the wooden floor and to the railing. In the distance, the sky was beginning to lighten as the first touches of sunrise lit the horizon.
He felt warm breath on the back of his neck before he felt the two arms encase his waist. Hands larger than his own held the railing, trapping him there. His heart raced as he turned away from the beautiful scenery, looking up into Fred's eyes.
Before he could say anything, before he could ask if Fred was alright, his lips were captured in a heated kiss. It was hot and heavy, enough to make him lightheaded. All too soon it was over and Fred was leaning back.
It didn't matter that they hadn't talked about it. All that mattered was that they were here at the top of the world as the sun broke the horizon - turning night into day. They would talk later and they would be alright.
