It was my duty, as a member…

To execute the thieves.

It was a code by which I had chosen to live

Chapter One

It had been a quiet couple of weeks while Enterprise was travelling through the Falconiën system. While the science department has their hands full examining all the data and samples they collected on the many uninhabited planets in the system. The rest of the departments had very little to do. The planets were all only inhabited by small creatures that posed no treats to away teams. The atmosphere of the planets was habitable but there were no beings with technological knowledge.

All this quiet time left the other departments with little more to do then busy work. The major repairs that had to be made due to the last attack from the Silca's had already been made and the long overdue upgrades and overhauls had also been completed at least a week ago. At the moment Enterprise was even in a better condition than when she left spacedock.

On my way to the mess hall I was thinking on how lucky we all had been during that attack. There had been a few serious injuries and a lot of damage, but nobody had been killed and the damage although extensive had been easy to repair.

The armoury had needed the most attention since it had been hit pretty bad in the last attack. Engineering had been spared from the largest impacts and had fortunately only needed minor repairs. There had been a few injuries most of them from the security department. Malcolm had been among the injuries and was still on light duty from the burns the exploding consoles had caused and the marks where the boarding Silca had hit him with their energy rifles.

Walking into the mess hall I noticed that most of the crew was here for dinner because at first glance there were no vacant seats. I looked around and spotted Malcolm Reed sitting alone at a table in the corner with his back to most of the occupants in the room. Ever since the accident he had been a bit grumpy and the rest of the crew had decided to leave him alone with his pad. While I was collecting my dinner I thought about eating in my quarters since the alternative was eating with Malcolm and I wasn't sure if he wanted my company.

Things had been pretty bad between us for a while and had only gotten worse since the Silca's attack on Enterprise. I knew it was pretty much my own fault but I had no idea how to make it up to him. Lately he was almost constantly avoiding me and if he had to confront me when work required it he spent as little time as possible in my presence and was gone almost as soon as I dismissed him.

I figured this was probably a good time to talk to him and maybe clear things between us. The only problem was that I didn't knew if he wanted to restore our friendship. The only way to figure it out was to ask him so I walked towards him dinner plate in my hands and asked "Mind if I join you loo-tenant ?"…
