A/N: Incredibly short one-shot to Hall and Oates's song, "Private Eyes." I heard this song and instantly though of Director Nick Fury so I decided to write a one-shot about it. Yes, I am fully aware that Nick Fury NEVER lets his guard down, so this story isn't plausible. It was written for humor. At first I had the idea that Nick is thinking of this song because he has private eyes looking at all the Avengers, but I decided to give it a plot twist. Let me know what you think! Yes I know it's terrible! xD
"I see you, and you see me. But you're blowing the line when you're making a scene oh girl, you've got to know what my head overlooks, the senses will show to my heart. When it's watching for lies, you can't escape my private eyes, they're watching you. They see your every move. Private eyes, they're watching you."
Nick Fury entered HQ with a rather happy stride in his step. Well, as happy as he could be. Today he felt on top of the world. Literally. Banner was in a lab working on some science project with Stark, Rogers was doing S.H.I.E.L.D's dirty work, Black Widow and Hawkeye were off on a mission together, and Thor visiting Jane. Everything was under control this morning.
"Good morning Director," Coulson greeted cheerfully as he met Fury. "All seems to be well this morning, sir! No real problems as of yet, sir!"
"Good," Fury responded shortly as he continued on to his office with Coulson in tow, babbling on about some random going-on in HQ. As he sat down in his chair, Fury couldn't help but hold back a smirk. He felt king of the world at this moment, and every Avenger was under his command and accounted for.
"You play with words, you play with love. You can twist it around but baby that ain't enough cuz girl, I'm gonna know if you're letting me in, or letting me go, don't lie. When you're hurting inside you can't escape my private eyes, they're watching you. They see your every move. Private eyes, they're watching you, private eyes, they're watching you."
"Director Fury, do you want me to double-check that all of the Avengers are taken care of? I'm sure you wouldn't want to find out if they're outside their limits."
"Why bother? I've got my one good eye on all of them through you Coulson. And I trust you have a good handle on the situation," Fury replied as he began looking through paperwork.
"Y-yes sir," Coulson saluted with a nervous smile as he took his leave of his commander.
"Why you try to put up a front for me? I'm a spy but on your side you see. Slip forth into any disguise, I'll still know you look into my private eyes. They're watching you."
As Coulson left the office, Fury failed to notice the one difference in Coulson that separated this Coulson from the real one.
His eye color was yellow.
"They see your every move."
