Hey everyone.

I'm just gonna warn you I cried a lot while writing this.

This is a tribute to my late great grandfather who passed away october of 2017.

He left his wife and family behind after suffering years of cancer.

Here's to my grandpa Larry, who grew the most beautiful roses. The title picture of this story was the last to have survived the 2017-18 winter.

Tears stream down my aged cheeks as I clutch my sleeping wife's hand like a lifeline. "Surely there has to be something we can do." I plead.

The doctor shakes his head solemnly. "I'm afraid not. She's reached the final stage of leukemia. I estimate she has only a few days left. I'm very sorry about your wife Mr. Agreste, but you have to understand there's nothing more we can do."

With out another word the doctor leaves me to watch over my lady.

She doesn't wake often over the next few days. Just long enough to tell me she loves me and fall back asleep.

I can't get it in my head that she's fading away. I can't accept that she won't pull through like last time. She's the strongest woman I know and I can't seem to let her go.

Her pulse gradually weakens and the nurse wakes her so I can have one final goodbye.

She stares up at me with faded blue eyes and she smiles.

"I love you, Kitty."

I return her smile as I desperately try to hold back the tears of a broken heart.

"I love you too, M'lady."

She stares up at me with confusion as her breaths shallow.

"What's wrong?" she asks me.

I can't tell her. I want her to pass away remembering that I loved her and not for her final memory was that her husband of 74 years was in pain.

"Nothing, nothing. Doctor says you're going to be just fine. You just need some rest ok? When you're finally better we'll go home and see the grandkids, and we'll bake macaroons just like dad did." My heart shatters when she smiles.

"I'd like that."

I kiss her forehead and rub her cold and wrinkled hands.

"I'm tired, minou."

"I know, Princess, I know, just close your eyes, everything will be just fine ok?"

She rests her eyes and whispers. "See you soon, Chaton."

Moments later her monitor flat lines and she's gone.
