She was such a pretty girl, Pegasus pondered. A beautiful girl who reminded me of the roses that grew in my parent's well-tended gardens. Her smile was uplifting and it made me return the favor. She was my special friend. Someone I wanted to have fun and play all day with.
I wanted to give her something, just a small present. Even though her birthday was months away and the Christmas gift giving season as well, I felt obligated to. Something that she could remember me by.
This gift I spotted the other day in a toy store was just perfect! This "toy" was a stuffed poseable teddy bear. What made such a common fodder plush catch my eye? It was holding a rose, a fake one that captured the elegance of the real deal. It was beautifully crafted by hand. The outer skin was like a fine cloth instead of the usual fur. It remained me of her, the little rose.
I spent nearly all of my hefty allowance on it, but I couldn't care less. All I wanted was to see a sincere smile across her face again. After I got home, I took it up to my room, for safekeeping. I did not want to get it dirty after all. It was the sensible thing to do.
However, I did discover recently that I had another source of joy, painting. I love to paint, a pastime I indulged in solo. My parents purchased a watercolor set that was my main source of producing art.
Therefore, I wanted to make this bear even more of a unique keepsake, by leaving a piece of artwork on it.
But the sloppy style of the water based paint wasn't refined or easy to detail. In fact the colors began to mix together or the paint spots became blotched. The once aesthetically pleasing doll was hideous in my opinion. Embarrassed and full of shame, I put it on a high shelf, never intending to show it off to anyone again.
Just as I placed in on the shelve, footsteps approached the entranceway of my room. Turing myself around, I saw her. Cyndia stood there wearing a sundress and her long gorgeous locks of blonde hair pulled up by a single pink bow.
I stuttered. "Cyn- Cyndia?"
She giggled at my failure to catch my verbal footing. Then directed her attention to the miserable tainted gift behind me.
"What's that?" She inquired innocently.
"Umm, nothing. Nothing at all." I lied, covering up the disaster behind me.
Cyndia was too smart to fall for that. "Come on, please?" She requested once more with her irises filling up with curiosity.
Cautiously, I presented this ugly bear to her, cringing ahead of time knowing that her reaction wouldn't be pleasant.
But she took the bear and broke into a trademark smile of hers. "Its lovely, I wish I had one Pegasus."
After a brief moment of shock, I melted into happiness. She accepted anything, and I could tell it was for real.
Smiling myself, I replied. "Its for you."
Her eyes lit up now and gave the bear a hug. Cyndia rewarded me with a peck on the cheek which I could feel my face darkening into a deeper shade of red.
