Another one-shot story prize! Congratulations to woodland59 and enjoy!
Glinda struggled against the guard carrying her away. She got one last look at Fiyero, hanging helplessly on the poles. He didn't deserve this. He was only trying to save the woman he loves. Elphaba.
She guard released her when they reached a carriage. He helped Glinda inside and the carriage sped off, back to the Emerald City Palace.
Once Glinda returned to the palace, she ran to her room and cried. She didn't care if she was ruining her makeup. She felt awful. Nessa was dead because of her. Fiyero was dying because of her. Elphie was… well, she wasn't dead… but she was hurting because of her. Glinda felt awful that she had been so selfish.
She was busy sobbing into her pink pillow when the soft sounds of chanting caught her attention. Sniffing and standing up, she walked towards the sounds. There, in the center of the throne room, stood Morrible. She was bend over a very large crystal ball. She seemed to be watching someone.
Glinda stayed hidden while she watched Morrible. She saw Elphaba running through the halls of some sort of dark and gloomy castle. Morrible crackled as she saw Elphaba collapse on the floor.
"It's only a matter of time, Miss Elphaba," Morrible whispered to the crystal ball. "And you will be mine!"
Glinda suppressed a gasp. She had to get to Elphaba. She had to warn her. Running outside and quickly conjuring up a bubble, she ascended into the skies towards Kiamo Ko castle.
Elphaba was on the floor with the Grimmerie in front of her. Her breaths came out short and quick. She opened the book and flipped through the pages. Glinda peeked into the room, careful not to make a sound. She hated to see her best friend in this much pain.
"Eleka nahmen nahmen ah tum ah tum eleka nahmen. Eleka nahmen nahmen ah tum ah tum eleka nahmen," Elphaba chanted.
Glinda's eyes grew wide with curiosity. What was Elphaba doing? She watched in silence until Elphaba said the name 'Fiyero' loud and clear.
"E-Elphie?" Glinda whispered, emerging from the shadows.
Elphaba whipped around and saw Glinda standing over her.
"What do you want?" she asked harshly.
"What happened to you?" Glinda asked, kneeling before her friend.
"Like you don't know," Elphaba whispered, turning away.
"I'm sorry," the blonde witch whispered, wrapping her arm around her friend.
"Don't touch me!" Elphaba hissed, pulling away.
"Elphie –"
"Don't call me that!" Elphaba yelled. Glinda jumped back. She was loosing her best friend.
"Elphaba –"
"Just go away," Elphaba whispered, her blank gaze falling out the window. "Just leave me alone here."
"Elphaba, I'm not leaving you!" Glinda protested.
"Go!"
"Morrible's going to get you. I'm trying to help you. Elphie please!"
"You're not trying to help me!" Elphaba whispered, her voice low and dark. "You just want me out of the way."
"What? No!"
"You gave that farm brat my sister's shoes to get back at me and you know it!" Elphaba shouted, turning around and facing Glinda.
"El-"
"Shut up and go away!" Elphaba shouted. Green sparks of magic swirled around her.
Glinda knew all too well what was happening. Elphaba was loosing control of her magic again. The last time she had a magical outburst, Fiyero fell in love with her.
Fiyero. So that's what this was all about. Glinda took a look at the Grimmerie. Elphaba was trying to save Fiyero's life.
Elphaba saw Glinda looking at the Grimmerie and quickly swiped it away from her.
"Go," Elphaba whispered before bolting up the stairs.
I'm so sorry Elphie, Glinda thought as she left the castle behind her. I'm so, so sorry.
