We flitted back to the cottage. Renesmee was staying with Jacob for the weekend, and I felt utterly carefree. It was almost expected that Edward would pull me down on top of him and ask for my thoughts. He was so desperate to read my mind now that he could-if I let him.

"Please. For a few minutes?" he begged.

I shrugged, then grinned as I thought of a good comeback, "Not tonight,"

His angelic smile faltered. He seriously looked very disappointed. "Please?"

I shook my head, "Why?" I asked.

"I don't know… I just-like it," I mumbled, not meeting my eyes.

I groaned at his heartbroken face. Before I could respond, he did something strange. He pushed my away. He slipped out from under my body and disappeared into the walk-in closet.

"What are you doing?" I laughed, running in after him.

He stood in the middle of the giant room with his hands behind his back, "I had an idea,"

"And?" I urged.

He pursed his lips and thought for a moment.

"Would you lift your shield if I showed you something in return?"

I frowned. What could he possible want to show me? More like- what hadn't he showed me? I normally wouldn't have said yes, but the curiosity was eating at me.

"Fine, but you first," I muttered.

He smiled, flashing his white teeth at me. "No, you. I asked first,"

I rolled my eyes, "I went first last time-you go,"

I was right about that, but I knew if he didn't agree, than this argument would last until the morning.

Surprisingly, he did agree. I stood in silence as he slowly dropped something into my palm.

It was a bottle cap.

I narrowed my eyes at the small piece of plastic. I had no idea what sentimental value there was behind this. I really hoped it didn't hurt his feelings about that.

I thought as hard as I could. Bottle Cap, Bottle Cap, Bottle Cap… nothing.

I could always lie to him and laugh it off. Saying that I remembered it. I knew that somehow, someway, he would figure out that I had been lying, and would be hurt twice as bad. As it turns out, I didn't have to say anything.

"Oh," Edward mumbled in a hurt voice, looking at the ground, "You don't remember?"

I immediately felt horribly guilty.

"No, it's just that it…" I didn't know what to say, so I told the truth, "No, I'm sorry, Edward,"

He shrugged it off and nodded to himself, probably remembering that I did lose some unimportant human memories. But even the important ones were dull. I instantly began to panic.

What if it was something important? How could've I forgotten?

His lips pulled up a little bit, "It's just a bottle cap…from when you first sat with me at lunch." He paused-looking to see if it rang a bell, "I kept it,"

I grinned a huge smile at him. He kept something from nearly four years ago? I felt better knowing that even a human wouldn't remember that.

"You were…um-drinking lemonade," he added.

I laughed, "I love you. I can't believe you kept something like that!"

He frowned a tiny bit, "It helped me through…when I left, along with some other stuff,"

I could see how easily he was becoming disgruntled, so I pressed my lips to his cheek and lowered my shield.
