(A/N) This story is different from my others. There will only be one POV throughout. This story may or may not have a happy ending, I haven't decided yet. Most likely it will have a sad ending. Enjoy this story!
Cinderpelt POV
Two white lights, silver metal, and a screech of tearing bone and a crunch. These are what I witnessed when I broke my leg. Then, everything changed. I had dreams of being the best warrior in the clan, possibly even deputy. But all that changed that day. Now, I'd be lucky to even be a good medicine cat, much less deputy. Firestar can't even look at me without wincing and guilt flashing across his face anymore. I wish he'd just look at me the way I look at him... but he never will, and even if he did, that couldn't happen because of the warrior code. The warrior code says a medicine cat can't take a mate, because it would distract them from their duties... One of the only stupid rules of the warrior code. Why shouldn't medicine cats be allowed to have mates? Leaders are allowed to have mates, so why not medicine cats? I walked through the camp as I thought, limping along. I barely noticed it anymore. I went over to the elder's den to check on the elders. They were fine. Smallear had creaky joints, but other than that the elders didn't have any problems. After treating them, I went back to my den to prepare for going to the moonstone. It wasn't the half moon yet, but I wanted - no, needed, to talk to starclan about this. I checked all the stores of herbs, and then went to talk to firestar about my leaving.
"Firestar? May I come in?" I asked quietly.
"Of course, cinderpelt." I pushed aside the hanging ivy and walked in.
"I'm going to the moonstone. I need to talk to starclan about something." I said what was on my mind without the usual awkward small talk. Firestar looked taken aback.
"Um. Okay. May I ask what this is about?" He asked, confused. I hesitated. He had the right to know, but if I told him, I'd have to tell him about why... and I wasn't ready for that yet.
"It's... complicated." I said evasively. He shrugged, then nodded.
"Alright. Thank you for telling me." He said. I walked away. That was close.
I walked up to mothermouth. It was almost moonhigh, so I had to hurry. I rushed through the tunnels, my paws slipping easily into the worn paw steps in the rock. As I reached the main cave, the moonstone erupted into light. I shut my eyes against the sudden light. I'd never get used to that. I lay down, and touched my nose to the cold moonstone, awaiting sleep.
I woke up in a small clearing. There was a tortoiseshell she-cat sitting across me. Spottedleaf! She was the last cat I wanted to talk to. I shuffled my paws, nervous.
"Hello, Cinderpelt. I know why you're here. Come. We have much to speak of." I followed close behind, feeling increasingly nervous as we walked through the forest. "I know why you're here. And let me tell you now: it is not my decision to make to change the laws of the warrior code. The whole of starclan must make a decision. I can argue your case, but beyond that I cannot help you. And just so you know, I am no threat to you. While it is true that I loved firestar, I follow the warrior code, and do not wish to take him as a mate." I sigh in relief.
"Thank you. You have something else to say?" I asked. She nodded, but stayed silent.
