The Way You Smile
"Your smile is BEAUTIFUL," he said with such an awe and without realising it.
She stopped working and looked at him as if he'd just spurted two huge horns on his head.
"What?" She was scowling now.
His mouth dried up instantly, eyeing the big old wrench she's holding. Uh-oh.
"Yo-your... ss-ss-smile… It's... uhm - " He took a deep breath. He could do this! "It's beautiful! Your smile!" The second he said that, he shut his eyes, waiting for the wrench to fly across his head.
None came. Instead, the clanking of the wrench hitting the nut on the engine resumed.
He slowly opened his eyes, still a bit terrified that the sound might only be from his imagination.
She was actually resuming her work on the machine. He breathed out, relieved.
"You should smile more, y'know…" he commented, a little more casually now, as he went back to read the medical journal in hand.
"Don't push it, Doc."
"Okay, okay." He mumbled, trying to convince her, "But you do have a beautiful smile."
The garage went back into just the sound of her working on her latest machinery and him humming some tune while pretending to focus on the document in hand. He stole a quick glance at her and like he had predicted, there it was:
A small smile gracing her face. And he knew he was one lucky man to have seen that smile. It's the way she smile that brought him joy in his heart that he'd never knew existed before.
Not many people in this world had the chance to even catch the glimpse of that smile.
