This is based off a prompt from the TTM discord server called Quiet Place. Hope you all enjoy this short little thing I made.
2:00 AM. That was what Neil's digital watch displayed when he looked at it. He sighed and looked outside the car's window.
It was another one of those days for Neil and Eva. They arrived at the patient's during lunch time and spent a total of 12 hours in their memory, fulfilling their wish. It wasn't particularly difficult. It was another one of those "I want to be famous" wishes.
Eva was so tired that she didn't argue with Neil when he offered to drive. Ever since the case with Johnny Wiles, Eva didn't trust Neil to drive the company car again. To be fair, he was just trying to save yet another innocent squirrel from being flattened under the heavy weight of an automobile. Though he ended up killing it anyway. Beside, the roadkill ended up becoming essential to fulfilling Johnny's wish. Without it, they would have failed. Eva should be letting Neil drive more often.
Eva suggested that they stop on the side of the road for the night and continue driving in the morning when they feel more awake. It was better than falling asleep at the wheel and causing yet another accident. Neil already had to pay the repair bills for the first one.
He decided to stop in a grassy field in the middle of nowhere. There were no buildings around nor were there any cars nearby other than the company car. It was just Neil, Eva, and the sky above them.
Because there was no light pollution, the stars that night were crystal clear to see. There had to be at least a billion of them. This sight reminded Neil of when he and his grandfather would go out stargazing in the wilderness. He was doing the same thing he did when he was a kid, except this time, instead of his grandfather, he's spending it with his co-worker.
Eva stared at the stars in awe. She made a comment to Neil about how beautiful they were. Neil agreed with Eva, but he thought that she was much more beautiful than any star in the sky. He never told her this, of course.
The later it got, the more Neil felt his eyes droop. The crappy coffee he bought from a convenience store they stopped at wasn't helping him stay awake. He looked over at Eva in the passenger's seat. Her eyelids slid closed and she moved so that her head was resting on Neil's shoulder. He heard a light snore coming from her.
Neil decided that maybe it was time to let sleep take him over as well. He planted a small kiss on Eva's temple, and leaned his head on hers. Within minutes, he drifted off into sleep.
