Ivy's Day On The Hogwarts Express

Ivy stared, dumbfounded, at the shining train in front of her. In bold red letters, the name Hogwarts Express was clearly visible. All around her, kids were bustling past with suitcases, owls, and their parents. Ivy wished her parents were here with her. Instead they were at the hospital, after being involved in a car crash. They were in critical condition, but the doctor assured Ivy that in time, they would get well. Her grandmother had taken her instead, and had left the second they had found their way onto the platform. She had never gotten along well with her.

Now Ivy stood, looking around, wondering where to put her suitcase. Perhaps I should just ask someone, she thought. But she was very shy, and couldn't bring herself to. Suddenly, a familiar shape made its way through the crowd towards her.

"Damon!" Ivy called, relieved, but also surprised. Damon had been her neighbour in her town, and in all her 11 years, she had never suspected him to be a wizard. She felt safer now, being near someone familiar.

But Damon merely glanced at her and strolled on by, leaving Ivy to stare blankly with shock. Recovering, she spun around and stood in Damon's path.

"Um, hello? Damon? Hi, yeah, remember me? Your neighbour? What gives?"

Damon stared at her coolly with his ice blue eyes. "Hello Ivy" he said.

Ivy couldn't believe him. "What's up. Wanna sit with me or something?"

Damon sighed. "Look, I'll make this quick. I'm not going to hang out with you here. I 'm staying with my new friends. I don't care if we are neighbours, I have a new life here, and I don't want to be seen hanging out with a MUGGLE-BORN. It will ruin my rep. And my chances of being in Slytherin will be ruined. So leave me alone."

And with that, he walked coolly off, leaving Ivy to do nothing but stare with shock and hurt on her face. Boy, he didn't have to be so mean, she thought. And what's a Slytherin? And what's Muggle-born?

"Hey" a quiet voice made Ivy spin around. There was a boy behind her. He looked about the same age as her, except he was shorter and thinner. His messy brown hair covered his face, and he stared at her with bleak blue eyes.

"Um, hi," Ivy replied a bit nervously.

He stared at her for a minute, then said. "You look a bit lost. Wanna sit with me? I could fill you in on what's happening."

"Ok" Ivy replied. Following the boy she thought, maybe it won't be so bad after all.
