The story line, however, is mine.
Clouds came and went, and the earth turned round. Trees swayed, shedding their leaves and setting them free. Birds chirped and fluttered from branch to branch, never staying in one place for too long.
Everything moved; everything changed.
The only thing that stayed constant…..was us.
The girl of my dreams lay next to me with her head on my chest. With every breath I took, her head rose and fell in perfect harmony.
When she asked me why I never stopped he from doing so, I simply told her it was too troublesome. She never asked beyond that, and I'm glad. I don't know how long I could keep it from her.
The time we spent together was like nothing else. It was like time stood still, all the while speeding by too fast. It made absolutely no sense, be we understood it perfectly.
It doesn't have to make sense to anyone else what drove a lazy genius and a hardworking outcast together. When I was with her, nothing mattered. Everything just disappeared, except her, me, and the clouds we watched.
That's how it first started. That's how we met.
Watching clouds was our lifeline, so to speak.
That's how we first kissed.
It's what we did on our first date.
That's how I realized I wanted to be with her forever. And, maybe, she wants the same thing.
"Shika-kun?" She asked, adjusting her dark brown buns and raising her head to face me.
"Yeah?"
"I….love you."
I want to say it back, but can I?
"I…"
Maybe…
"I know, Tenten," is all I can say.
It's not that I don't feel the same way about her. Every day I look to the sky and thank whoever's up there for sending me their most beautiful angel to love me. But it's things like this I cannot bring myself to say to her, and I hope she understands.
Because sometimes….
….Some things are better left unsaid.
