Being a Gold Saint
by Narwe Silverflame
Being a Gold Saint means so much more than you will ever be able to understand. Being a Gold Saint represents so much more than you will ever be able to understand. It stands for things no average human mind will ever be able to comprehend, for things instinctively evoking a sense of hidden mysteries, cloaked power and half-forgotten legacies that you will never know anything of.
Do you sometimes watch stars at night? Do your eyes sometimes stop on one or another of the twelve constellations, each linked to one of the Houses we guard? You see, in a sense we're like those tiny twinkling jewels. Now or then you get a feeling that maybe you can just stretch your hand and snatch one of them from the skies, holding it gently in your palm close to you. You get a feeling that maybe you could talk with us, laugh with us, joke with us as you would with any other person, a feeling that a Gold Cloth is like a medieval knight's armour under which lurks a perfectly normal person of the kind which you encounter daily on streets.
That is one of the greatest mistakes one could commit, it's like believing in a never existing illusion. A fata morgana. You will never be able to hold in your hand a star from the constellations of the Zodiac. Ever.
When you imagine it to be so nonetheless, maybe we're putting on a mask at the moment to appear more 'human', as you are wont to say. It sounds strange to you, doesn't it? Because most people use masks when wanting to intimidate someone, to prove their strength and superiority and hide their weaknesses. When we try to impress someone, which is not very often, we just let our masks fall and lower the shields that keep our cosmos at bay around the others. In a situation like this, a simple eye contact is enough to drive anyone away. And it is in fear that they leave.
It's hard to describe what is that scares them so. Someone once made an attempt at that and he presented this with an example. So you know of the Bronze Saints? Yes, I thought you would. Do you know Phoenix Ikki and Andromeda Shun? Good. Now, can you imagine Ikki intentionally hurting Shun for Athena, no, intentionally killing his younger brother just to guarantee her safety? You can't He would never do that. A Gold Saint would. A Gold Saint would do it for his Goddess and for thousand sleepless nights and for the 'greater good', for lack of a better term. But you cann0t understand that. Only we, the true Saints of the Zodiac can.
We understand what being a Gold saint means, we understand what it represents and we have the power to fight and die for what it stands for.
Well, it's short but I rather like it. I wrote this once when I got really frustrated because the show is continuously ignoring a certaing hierarchy. Bronze Saints, Silver Saints, Gold Saints. How can it be possible that those who rank lowest on this scale get all the attention? And even when the anime does feature the Gold saints, they sacrifice themselves so the Bronzies can get all the glory! Ahem, ok, now I will just calm down a little bit...
