Demi's POV
Fear.
I thought I knew about fear, but I didn't. Oh, sure I'd been scared before. Scared of the dog out on number 12, scared to give speeches at school, scared of a horror movie. But those feelings weren't real fear, not even close. I found out how it felt to be afraid that night. Truly afraid. The fear stayed in my body it was like I could reach out and touch it. It went right through me, and I know I'll remember this feeling for the rest of my life. I wasn't sure at first what had woken me. I lay perfectly still on my back with my eyes wide open. The green light of my bedside clock shone 3.15am. At first I thought it had been my sister Maddie. She's only 8 months old and sometimes she wakes up and cries in the night. Mum and Dad are heavy sleepers, so I usually get up then settle her, sometimes I pick her up for a cuddle or give her the dummy, and pat her back. She's usually back to sleep in a minute. But I couldn't hear Maddie that morning. The house was dead quiet I closed my eyes and tried to go back to sleep but then I heard rustling outside, someone was out there, I knew it. I wanted to scream to my mum and dad but no voice came out when I opened my mouth. Then I heard a stick crack. I closed my eyes tightly in panic. Then I heard bashing and thudding on the back door, I shot up from bed, grabbed Maddie hugging her close. I got her dummy and a blanket wrapped around her, I slammed my parent's room open. The look on their faces were also wondering what was going on. Shouting circled my thoughts "POLICE! OPEN THE DOOR NOW!". The police? Why in the world would they be here, I was in deep thought when I caught my mother's reaction. A flutter of emotions crossed her face. Anger, sadness, shock, puzzled. Then she stood up properly getting her silk robe on, she unlocked the door and the police came bustling in. I was asked to go into the living room, with Maddie surprisingly still asleep. I saw them go through my parents room, they check everywhere. The moved from their room to mine. They went through my jewellery box and then they looked though my closet, draws, tables, then under my bed. There was a box of something under my bed. They pulled it out and they nodded at each other. Both of them came in the living room to confront us.
Police Officer#1: we found these under your daughter's bed Mr Lovato.
Mr Lovato: *looks down, ashamed*
Police Officer#2: yes, we thought so. *hand cuffs him*
A whole box of stolen cell phones, under my bed. My father done it? I couldn't believe it, he was taken away and he was given 3 years prison because apparently there were more goods around the house. Golden rings, pirated DVDs and music and tons more. My father is a criminal. And I knew I was never ever going to forgive him, my mother was sobbing uncontrollably, I comforted her fighting to keep the tears in my eyes. Maddie was sleeping like a rock, it kinda made me sleep that she was sleeping through all this drama that would change my life forever.
