Disclaimer: Not… yet…
Just a quick one-shot. Nothing too fancy.
Possibly, we humans can exist without having to fight,
But many of us have chosen to fight.
It was amazing. Just two words. Ten letters. Something so short, something so uncaring, something so cold, managed to shatter her world. How was it possible? It couldn't be. No. Computers could make mistakes, right? It couldn't be true. He was too strong to be killed by ten letters. He couldn't be taken away from her. Not like that. He had to die when he was old, when he was ready, after they had spent years of bliss together. Not like this. It couldn't happen like this. She had to be dreaming. She would wake up to find his warm hand rubbing her shoulders, and then she would curl up into his arms and they could be happy. Forever. Forever couldn't be killed by two words. It couldn't.
For what reasons?
To protect something?
She was frozen, locked inside of her thoughts. She couldn't move, couldn't speak. All she could do was think, and think she did. He had promised her so many times that he would be there for her, forever. He had to keep his promise. He had to. He had said he would be there forever. He never broke his promises, and had no reason to start. They were meant to be together. It was a lie. Some kind of sick joke. He couldn't actually be gone. No. Someone just had a twisted sense of humor. He would come back to her. He had to.
Protect what?
Ourselves? The future?
Why? He hadn't done anything to anybody. All he'd wanted to do was protect her, protect his friends. Was that so wrong? Did he have to… He hadn't deserved it. But, did anybody deserve it? Weren't they all just doing the same thing? Fighting to protect the ones they cared about? But… Not Him. Things like this only happened to other people, not her. It couldn't happen to her. No. Other people, they were fighting to totally annihilate others. He had just been fighting for her. He wouldn't have cared what others were, what had happened to their genes. He had considered everybody human. He hadn't done anything wrong!
If we must kill to protect ourselves, and that future
Then what sort of future is it? And what will we have become?
She had to do something. She had to show herself that it was a lie. It wasn't true. It couldn't be. But no matter how much she denied it, deep down she had a feeling. Something wasn't right. Something was missing. It couldn't be. No. It had to be wrong. She had to be dreaming. He was too good at it, he was too confident. Why hadn't he listened to her? She had told him she didn't feel comfortable with him going out there, but he did it anyways. Why? Why couldn't he be happy just doing what he'd been doing before?
There is no future for those who have died,
And what of those who did the killing?
The screen came back into focus. That was right. She could still try. She had to, but her lips wouldn't move. She couldn't get her voice to work. But she had to know, she had to confirm. She had to. She needed it, like she needed him. What would she do without him? He'd been there for her, for everything she'd been through. Could she really go on without him? She may be able to, if she could know for sure. She could do it. She had to.
"Tolle? Tolle! Kira! Kira! Tolle!"
Is happieness to be found in a future grasped with bloodstained hands?
Is that the truth?
A/N I have no idea where that came from… Hope you liked it.
The stuff in italics came from a quote/monologue thing from Lacus.
