Sabaku no Gaara was known all his life as a monster.
It wasn't even his own fault to begin with; he did not ask to be the vessel for a blood-thirsty, one-tailed demon. He did not ask for invisible eyebrows, and he definitely did not ask for an uncle who tried to kill his own nephew.
The sleeplessness was not a perk either, so perhaps the lack of sleep caused his grouchiness.
Whatever it is, Gaara never smiles. Ever.
Consequently, he got extremely irritated when he saw all the happy-go-lucky citizens of Konoha during the chuunin exams. Especially the weak, pink-haired kunoichi he saw with his fellow demon-container.
Sakura did nothing wrong. She was just smiling – at the wrong place, wrong time. The next moment, a redhead with 'love' etched on his forehead was glaring fiercely at her.
She froze.
If glares could kill, his would be the most mutilating one. Unfortunate for the future kazekage, his glares did not have that ability.
As time passed by, he eventually grew tamer, though he did have an attempt on Sakura's life. It was unsuccessful, to his good fortune.
Or else Gaara would be one dead sand-nin by now, after the Akatsuki wrenched the demon out of him.
The first thing that Gaara did was glare. He glared darkly at the flashing teeth Sakura displayed – a smile that could rival the green beasts of Konoha.
Sakura frowned instantly.
"I saved your life and you glare at me?" she flared, as Inner Sakura pounded in her head, shrieking to be let loose and give him a piece of her mind.
"You're too happy," he gritted out.
