DAWN'S EARLY LIGHT

Sam was exhausted beyond belief. His brother was wrestling with the flu—had been for four days—and Sam had been nursemaid 'round the clock as Dean's condition worsened to frightening levels. Now as dawn's early light peeked timidly over the horizon and poked its fingers through the miniscule crack in the curtains, Sam sank into the hard, increasing uncomfortable, chair next the bed and rubbed a palm across his face. He was so tired, so strung out with worry that tears pricked his eyes.
"S'm-my?" Dean creaked.
Dean's voice was completely wrecked, but it was music to Sam's ears.
