The scene in question frightened the hell out of me and hasn't left my mind since I saw the movie. therefor, fic happened. Enjoy!

Let it be quick.

He could feel it, as they got closer. He could feel himself melting.

Let it be quick.

Jessie's frenzied breathing caught his ear, and he turned his head to look at her. The red-headed cowgirl was leaning heavily on Buzz, eyes glued to the death in front of them.

Please let it be quick.

The heat and the swirl of the wind was unbearable. The others closed their eyes and clung tighter to each other's hands.

He couldn't look away. Not yet. Not even as the orange and white flames threatened to lick his face and burn his body away to ash.

A million memories flashed before his eyes, of happier times, of laughter and love and Andy, of Bo Peep and the day she left, of Buzz's arrival and meeting Jessie and introducing Mrs. Potatohead to her soul mate, birthday parties and Christmases, and those quiet evenings when he'd do nothing but stare at the stars through the windows of Andy's room. An entire lifetime in a blink of an eye.

What would happen after this? Where would they go? Did Heaven exist for a beat up old cowboy doll and the makeshift family that had been to hell and back with him? He'd never had to think about it before, and at the moment of truth, he didn't know.

Buzz tightened his grip on his hand, almost to comfort the other doll. It'd be alright.

Let it be quick.

With a sigh, Woody closed his eyes against the flames and readied himself for impact. There was no escape, but strangely that was alright.

They were together.

To infinity and beyond.
