A Purpose

(1)

Eight year old Bruce Wayne couldn't accept what had happened; at least not that it was an accident. His parents had been murdered and now he was left alone, with only Alfred to keep him company. This had caused him to delve deeper, looking into myths or reasoning's that Alfred claimed might not be there. The butler had tried to explain to him that bad things just happened sometimes but Bruce wouldn't believe it.

There had to be a purpose for this happening…

With that thought, he continued to dive into the puzzle that was his parents' murder.

(2)

Years had passed and things had become clearer. At first he had given up, but that had been because he hadn't had the resources to investigate. Sure he had the money, but not the means. He couldn't have trusted anyone else to help. They would make excuses, be bribed, less than thorough.

Only I can do this…

He kept training, looking forward to the day that he could avenge his parents' death, by any means.

(3)

He had become the Batman for that reason, only to avenge his parents' deaths and nothing more. At first, he thought he would kill the man who had been responsible, and then he thought better of it. Although the man had killed his parents, he still deserved what the law gave him, and that was jail. It wasn't Batman who would give the man justice, although a few injuries certainly wouldn't harm anything.

He got what he deserved... Bruce thought as he stared at the case that held his alter ego, a frown set on his face. So, why can't I just quit?

Despite the thought, he suited up again and went out, planning on delivering more justice to the criminals that haunted the streets of Gotham.

(4)

More years passed and he finally understood. Despite the purpose that he had originally set out to do being fulfilled years ago, it was another purpose that filled his place. The one to make sure that nothing like that happened to someone else.

It's what drives me now…

He stared at the case before suiting up, planning what would be another night on patrol. It was unfair circumstances that led to his parents' deaths and he was bound to make sure that that didn't happen to anyone else.

They don't deserve to go what I went through…

He glanced over at Alfred, a mask of worry on the older man's face, before setting out.

Even if it will someday kill me, Gotham needs a Batman.

So once again, thanks to Bighead98 for the idea! I hope you enjoyed, although it was rather short. Please let me know what you thought in a review! Also, sorry if Bruce's age is a bit off. I'm not completely sure what age he was when he lost his parents.
