Chapter 1: Permission

June, 1983

Finn Hudson was excited. He was about to walk into his place of work and ask if he could do something almost unheard of. He was the janitor at Power Station Records, a legendary New York City recording studio, co-owned by his cousin Tony. For the past couple years, he had been recording demos after hours with the help of his cousin and a couple of studio engineers he had befriended. Last year, he had written and recorded a song called "Runaway", about a young girl who leaves her home to become a Broadway star. Now, he was about to ask Tony for permission to bring the song to local radio stations to try and get it played on air.

He reached Tony's office and knocked on the door. "Come in," said a voice, which he recognized as his cousin's. He walked into the office and sat down. "Finny. What can I do for you?" said Tony. "Well, I wanted to ask you something. I was wondering if you would be OK with me taking 'Runaway' to some radio stations to get it played?" Tony stared at him for a minute before he said, "Sure." Finn thanked him and then headed out. He got a cab and took it to the address of radio station WAAP 103.5 FM, better known as "The Apple". He got out of the cab and walked towards the door. He was nervous, because he knew that his future sort of depended on this meeting.

I know its short. Its 3:20 AM. I was going to have more in this chapter, but im tired so next chapter will detail the meeting at "The Apple" and the aftermath
