Disclaimer: I don't own it

Leland hummed to himself as he went into work. He was in a really good mood. Last afternoon he had been approached by an angel and given a gift. He would be allowed to go back and save one person that had passed on. This was an amazing gift, especially after losing his first child, Jennifer.

There were two problems however. The first was he had to wait 45 days before he could do this. The second problem was more complicated. Monk knew about the gift. He was there when Leland had gotten it.

He was also at the station when Leland got in.

"Hey," Monk said, "How is the most wonderful friend ever?"

"Suddenly very suspicious," Leland said dryly

"Suspicious," Monk laughed, "why would you be suspicious"

"It's basic math," Leland explained, "You knowing about the gift I was given by that angel plus the fact that you lost your wife equals you think I should go back and save her instead of saving Jennifer"

"Here's the thing," Monk said, "We don't even know that Jennifer's really dead. She's been stolen."

"SHE'S BEEN MISSING FOR A YEAR!"

"That doesn't mean anything"

"What are you- it means plenty!"

Monk thought for a minute.

"How about this," he said, "I'm thinking of a number from one to ten. You pick a number and I pick a number. Whichever one of us guesses the number wins"

"And you don't see the flaw in your plan," Leland asked

"What flaw?"

"Well aside from the fact that it's mygift and mydecision if you pick the number you know the number. In knowing the number you are bound to win!"

"Look, Leland you're a lot stronger then me. Emotionally you're a lot more together then I am"

Leland closed his eyes.

"I'll tell you what," he said, "I have 45 days before I'm allowed to make this decision anyway. If you can find Jennifer not Jennifer's body but Jennifer in the next 45 days I will make the choice that benefits you. If you can't I'm going to save my daughter. That's fair!"

"That's totally fair," Monk said happily.

"Uh Monk?"

"Yuppers?"

"I'll see you on the flip side"

"See you on the flip side"
