It was killing him. This lack of trust. And from a teenage girl no less. It was pathetic, and he couldn't help but want to hit himself or someone else. He shouldn't even care, for Christ sake he knew her mother, was older than even most the Council knew. He was old enough to be in their textbooks, but the opinion of a little girl mattered more to him than his reputation or pride or his life. And hadn't he made that obvious? Hadn't he done everything he could to protect her; taken on the wolves, fought his father/tormentor for her? He had fought the blood hunger and stood trial for her. He would, had, taken bullets for her. All he hoped for was a little feeling, the tiniest bit. Some times he could get it too, if he got her alone or caught her off guard, but she always pulled herself back. He could never hold her long, physically or mentally. And now he had gone and joined the Council, the sorriest bunch of sorry bastards he'd ever met. A lot like him actually. And what did she do? She wanted to find her little wolf boy, tested him over it to see if he would go with her, God knew he'd follow her to the ends of the earth if she but asked. All of it, every thing he did now, for her. So she could see he wasn't going to leave and he wasn't going to let anyone hurt her anymore. No, no one was going to hurt his precious little bird.
He loved her. Too much. He wouldn't say it out loud, not even to himself but it was true, truer than anything else in his world. He loved her more than any one or any thing else before, her own mother included. And that love hurt too, the agonizing emotion cut him a little more every time he didn't see it reflected in her eyes, but instead turned to that little loup-garou. But that didn't matter, he knew it was impossible to expect her love. All he wanted was a little.. Trust.
