Zuko stared at his sister.
His sister smiled serenely back at him.
They were situated at a plain, white table in a just as plain, white room, one of the visitation-rooms of the facility. There was a big glass window showing the sea and a few islands during the day, but at the moment it was dark outside, so instead it acted like a mirror. The glass was unbreakable. Azula would know. When they had first taken her here, she had tried with all her might to break them. But that was before... Before what?
She sluggishly turned her attention back to her brother when he opened his mouth to say something. But when Zuko's eyes met hers, no words came out. He tried again,
"Azula, what... What have they done to you?" The question surprised her, and she stopped to think.
It was surprisingly hard to think, actually. It took her a while to formulate an answer.
"They've taken me here to see you, Zuzu." Zuko looked like a fish with his mouth open like that. It made her smile wider as she pictured a Zuzu-fish. Ha.
"You're not yourself. At all." He said. She thought he looked angry. Maybe confused. And what did he mean by that? Azula tried to think of a reason why she wouldn't be herself, but couldn't come up with one. If she wasn't herself, then Zuzu wouldn't be talking to her, and he wouldn't call her Azula, would he? Because that was her name, wasn't it? Oh! Maybe he knew someone else named Azula?
She decided to ask, ending the long stretch of silence.
"Do you know someone else named Azula?"
The question didn't seem to calm him at all. Instead, he seemed even angrier than before. Her smile faltered. Was he angry because of her? Would they make her sleep now? She didn't like the kind of sleep they put her in. It was too deep, too much like drowning. She had told them, but they had just smiled and told her that she would be safe here.
She didn't like their smiles.
Zuko had gotten up from his kneeling position. His face looked strained, like he was holding something back.
"I'm afraid I have to leave. Goodbye, sister." He was frowning, but Azula didn't know why.
"Farewell, brother." She smiled politely.
As he opened the door, he was received by a doctor and two girls. She thought she recognised the girls. One was as nicely dressed as her brother, and had a blank expression on her face. She avoided Azula's eyes. The other wore some sort of green armour, and she looked very sad. Their eyes met. A name came into Azula's mind:
"Ty-Lee."
She said it quietly, but the sad girl heard it. She looked surprised, and then she gave her a careful smile. Azula vaguely thought that maybe she was supposed to care. The nurses had arrived with the white shirt to take her back to her room, though, and closed the door behind them, cutting off her view of her brother and the two girls. Before the door had fully closed she caught the words,
"What is the meaning of this?! You drug her?"
"Zuko..."
"My Lord, we-."
"You were supposed to help her! You-!" The door slid shut, cutting him off.
