Hello everyone! Musashi here, and I know it's been a long while since I uploaded anything. I'm sorry I don't upload more often, life just keeps getting in the way, you know? But don't worry, I haven't forgotten about my account! The good news is, today I have the prologue of a brand new story for you all! Since this is just a prologue and not an actual chapter, it is considerably shorter than what I usually write. I'm still working out lots of kinks in the idea for this story, so until I figure it all out, please enjoy this sneak peak! I hope to have the actual first chapter up within a week or two, but knowing me, it'll take a few months... heh, sorry. Anyways, please enjoy! (Also Chapter 4 of "The Endless Horizon" will be up November 10th or 11th)
Welcome to Paradise!
Prologue
About 20 years ago, crime surged throughout the world at a rapid rate. There were always gangs fighting for control of the streets, and deciding who was the strongest.
However, one gang rose above all the rest. This gang was head up by Gold Roger, the strongest gangster to ever live. He was crowned the "King of the Streets", and took control over most of the world. But one day, the police finally caught him. During his execution, he left to the world these words:
"Heheh. My secrets? My wealth? All of it can be yours... just find that one place. Hidden in the Grand Line City!"
These words brought about the great Era of Crime, and even more gangs started popping up left and right. Now, there's one boy who wants to follow in Roger's footsteps, and become the new king of the streets...
East Blue City, Foosha District...
"It's finally time... I'm heading out on my own!" A loud voice shouts as he makes his way towards a taxi.
"Luffy, please be careful out there! And come back to visit every now and then from school, okay?" A green haired woman says to the boy, now referred to by Luffy.
"I know Makino, I'll make sure to visit!" Luffy reassures her.
"Don't get into any trouble out there, young man! I know your tendencies!" A small frail man emerges from behind the green haired woman, Makino, and scolds to Luffy.
"Don't worry Mayor, I won't get into too much trouble!" Luffy shouts back to him.
"Kids these days..." the Mayor mumbles and kicks a rock in the dirt.
"Well, I'm off now! To Paradise High School!" Luffy shouts to the Mayor, Makino, and crowd of people who stand with the two. Some of them cheer, others shout, and others, like Makino, even shed a few tears.
Luffy hops into the taxi, and shuts the door behind him.
"Don't you have any bags with you, son?" The driver asks the straw-hatted boy.
"Nope." Luffy answers him.
"Well, that's your problem then..." he mumbles to himself. "Where are you headed lad?"
"To Paradise High School, it's in Grand Line City!" Luffy energetically replies.
"Alright kid," the driver responds, "about 140 miles... 2 berries per mile... that'll be 280 berries."
"Wha-?" Luffy confusedly remarks, "but I don't have that much money!"
"How much do you have then? I'll take you as far as however many berries you have" The driver explains.
"Let's see..." Luffy goes digging in his pockets and pulls out a bone that's had all the meat scraped off of it, "no not that..." he mumbles and tosses it out the window. After digging around for another few minutes and discovering a wishbone and a leftover granola bar wrapper, Luffy pulls out 40 berries.
"Is this enough?" Luffy asks.
"Hm... I can take you to the Shell District for that amount. Although you'll still have quite a way to go until you get to Grand Line City." The driver explains.
"That's fine, it's still summer, school doesn't start for another two weeks." Luffy replies.
"Alright then..." the driver murmurs, "to the Shell District?"
"To the Shell District!" Luffy shouts in confirmation.
As the taxi makes its leave, our story finally begins...
