Like A Nightmare

Author's Note: I do not own The Great Gatsby or any of its characters, they are owned by the late F. Scott Fitzgerald.

This is my first publish, so please be kind. It is written in Gatsby's POV about Daisy.

I will protect her from him.

Even though hope for us is dim,

Still, I will wait for her,

The girl I remember.

But, when I look at her face,

I fail to see past the gilded lace

Which shields her eyes from the light,

From looking at me with delight.

But now she looks to that putrid beast

For love and tenderness long since ceased.

How could she submit to his hypocrisy?

All because he s from an aristocracy!

Her once enchanting eyes are now disheartening,

Filled once with wonder, but now with nothing.

Her kisses are passionless, her heart is cold!

She lusts for money and pines for gold.

Her name when uttered once held great powers,

Overtook me with the aroma of flowers,

But now, alas! It sounds like fiery spit

And looks to be the most painful word ever writ .

The emerald lights down at the dock

Changed me into an over wound clock.

My blessed objects diminished by one,

My wonderful dream becoming undone.

She was my life, she was my air,

Now, I cannot breathe, I cannot bear

Having to awaken from my dream,

For I fear that it will all seem

Like a Nightmare.
