She stood there alone in the abandoned apartment complex in Gotham City reliving every last memory. Every last beating, all the tests, the nightmares. Everything. And it crashed against her like a wave.

She walked slowly over to the farthest wall, and there, hung the poster that she had stared at for hours at a time as a child. It was faded, but you could still make out the words: "Alice in Wonderland." Before the memories could flood back, she noticed someone at the door. A person, if you could even call him that, who she wished to never see again.

"Well, hello beautiful," he smirked. He waggled his eyebrows and continued, "Wow, your lookin pretty good. Puberty must have hit you with the sexy stick, babe."

"I'd love to beat you with that stick," she muttered. "What do you want Cameron?"

"A minute," he charmed, "with you."

"Well, you got it. Spill," she snapped. He stepped through the doorway to stand next to her and stare at the poster.

He sighed. "I'm sorry," he breathed. His gaze shifted to the floor and Artemis stood there: mouth a gape, eyes bugged out, not trusting her own ears. 'Did he really just say that' she thought. 'Something must be up. This is not the Cam I know.'

"What?" she whispered.

"I-I'm sorry I broke my promise."

"Cam-"

"No, Artie, just-no. I need to say this," he paused, took a deep breath and looked her in the eyes, "I broke my promise to you. I promised that I would never leave you alone, the same way everyone else did. And I'm sorry, Artemis. I'm sorry I left. I'm sorry that I wasn't there to protect you from him."

"Cameron, don't-"

"No, don't continue to interrupt me. I want to tell you how sorry I am! I want you to know that I have been beating myself up over this for the past five years! How I feel like a douche for lying to you! For-"

His rant was subsided by a blow to his lips. Sweet, plump, refreshing, cherry-chapsick-covered lips. Her arms wrapped around his neck and he put his around her waist, pulling her closer. And there, in the same place they lost each other five years earlier, they found each other again. Wrapped in each others warm embrace, there was no more hate, no more anger or resentment, no heartbreak. Just love and understanding. Together, they fixed their foundations, and built and house for two. Or maybe three…..

Semi OOC but, whatever. When they were about 10 years old-ish they were friends. He broke his promise and left her right after her mom was arrested and Jade left. She eventually moved out of the apartment and to the cave, or something. Point is she doesn't live there anymore. The end flashes into their future.

WWSMluv4ever: This was a one-shot. But I will write their future for you! :D (and whoever else wants more Article Jr.)
