Secret

Disclaimer: I don't own YuGiOh.

She lay back, her feet hanging over the end of the pier into the cold, choppy water. She was entranced by the clouds moving slowly across the sky, the broad expanse of brilliant blue that lay behind them. Today was a good day to be outside, and an even better excuse to get out of the house.

Maybe moving in with her boyfriend hadn't been such a good idea.

As she thought this, a face appeared above her, a man leaning over her. She giggled at the disapproving expression on his face.

"You realize this is private property?" he asked darkly.

"Yes."

"You don't care?"

She shrugged.

"I could have you arrested, you know."

"Why would you?" she asked, blinking up at him innocently. "I'm not doing anything wrong."

"You mean other than trespassing," he reminded her dryly.

"Well, yes." Was this guy an idiot?

"Please leave," he said, leaving her field of vision.

She rolled onto her stomach and watched him walk away, smiling to herself. He sounded like he was used to people obeying him without question – she hated men like that.

"I thought I told you to leave."

Shizuka opened her eyes and smiled – he was back. "You did," she agreed, sitting up.

"Why are you still here?" he demanded, glaring at her.

She laughed, nearly slipping off the dock as she did so – alarmed, the man jumped forward and caught her, pulling her to her feet a safe distance from the edge. This only served to make her laugh harder, holding onto his sleeve to keep her feet.

He stared at her, amazed. "Are you insane?" he asked suspiciously, his blue eyes narrowed dangerously. She shook her head, tears in her eyes, giggling madly. "Then what's wrong with you?"

And, as sometimes happens when one laughs too much, Shizuka began sobbing, quite alarming her companion.

"What's wrong?"

"I don't know!" she wailed, covering her face with both hands.

She had very nice hands, the man noticed, staring at her clean, neatly trimmed fingernails. Realizing the foolishness of what he had just thought, he shook his head, firmly putting it out of his mind. Since it didn't look like she was going to stop any time soon, he gently steered her away from the pier and into his office, a spacious room above the warehouse, overlooking the water. He pushed her into a chair, where she sat, sniffling and miserable, while he disappeared for a few minutes.

When he came back, she was calm and almost completely silent, simply staring at the clock above his desk. He shoved a mug into her hands, then went to sit behind the desk, watching her while she took a tentative sip.

She glanced at him and raised an eyebrow. "Hot chocolate?"

He coughed and looked away. "My younger brother comes here a lot," he explained. "It's his."

"I see. Well, tell him I said thank you." She grinned into the mug, tickled by the thought that someone who seemed so stiff and stern would keep sweets in his office – she had noticed the small pile of candy wrappers he had discreetly swept into a desk drawer upon entering the room.

"Would you like to tell me what you were doing on my pier?"

Shizuka put the mug down and smiled at him. "I was watching the clouds," she told him patiently. Glancing at his messy sweep of brown hair, she noticed a few strands that were standing on end – without thinking, she leaned across the desk and smoothed them down.

He grabbed her wrist and pushed her away, glaring. "What do you think you're doing?" he asked furiously.

As he brain finally caught up with her body, she blushed. "I'm sorry!" she exclaimed, "I'm just – I mean – my brother –"

"You do that to your brother?"

"I was just fixing your hair," she said stubbornly. "Who are you, anyway?"

"I should be asking you that!"

A/N: Kay, yeah, awkward sudden end. If I get reviews, at least a few, I may update soon. If at all.

Yeah.
