WEE-TAIL THERAPY
Timothy O'Neill was in the kitchen of his apartment, preparing some St John's Wort tea. He'd been dealing with the breaking down of his relationship with Janet. It had been hard to stand up to her, due to his not wanting to be alone, but she intimidated him, and he felt at least a little calmer. His thoughts were interrupted by a knocking at the door.
Probably Janet wanting to rant at me again, he thought, come on now, Timothy, you've come this far.
He walked to the door and steeled himself. Opening it, he started speaking before he'd even opened the door.
"Janet, I know it's hard, but..."
His voice trailed off when he realised it wasn't Janet, but one of his other female colleagues Diane Bennett, stood there looking upset.
"Diane?" Timothy said with surprise, "What are you doing here?"
"Oh, Tim, I'm sorry to turn up unannounced, but I didn't know where else to go," she said, wiping her eyes with a tissue, "Can I come in?"
"Oh. Of course, of course," he said, motioning for her to come inside.
He led her over to the sofa and she sat down.
"I was just making some St John's Wort tea. Would you like a cup?" he asked.
"Oh, yes please."
Timothy went to the kitchen to prepare a second cup, and came back, sitting next to Diane with the tea and offering her a fresh tissue from the box on the table.
"Thank you," she said, picking up the tea and taking a sip.
Timothy did the same. "So, what's wrong Diane?"
Diane put her cup down and took a deep breath. "It's Herbert. He left me for another woman."
"Oh no! How did it happen?" Timothy asked.
"I went into the kitchen earlier, and I found divorce papers in an envelope on the table with a note saying he'd left. He said I could keep the house and the Fuzzy Wuzzy Wee Bits collection," she said before starting to cry again.
"Let it out, Diane, let it out," Timothy said, putting his arms out as she buried her face in his shoulder, tears running down her face. After a few minutes, she calmed down and a thought came to Timothy's mind.
"Did you just say you have a Fuzzy Wuzzy Wee Bits collection?" he asked.
"Yeah," she responded with a sniff, "Why, do you hate them too?"
"I have something to show you," Timothy said, standing up and motioning for Diane to follow him.
She did and he opened one of the cupboards in the lounge, which contained several shelves of Fuzzy Wuzzy Wee Bits.
"Oh my goodness, I had no idea you collected these as well," Diane said with wonder, a smile appearing on her face for the first time since she arrived.
"Well, it's kind of a secret habit of mine," Timothy said, picking one of them up off the shelf, "They're just so cute."
Diane scanned the shelves, looking at the different items sitting on them. "Wow! You've got a few I don't have here."
Timothy replaced the one he'd just picked up. "My brother is the Assistant Manager of the store at the Mall of the Millenium. I get some of the discontinued ones cheap from him."
"Do you think you could get me some?" Diane asked.
"Sure," Timothy said, smiling, "In fact, I was going to head down there today. They have some new stock coming in. How about you come with me? Maybe a little shopping will take your mind of things, and we can get some lunch. What do you say?"
Diane thought about it then smiled. "Yeah, that sounds like a wonderful idea, Timothy!"
"Great! Let's go!" Timothy said, as he lead Diane out of the apartment.
