Disclaimer: I own nothing. Just a little one-shot that popped into my head because I think if you were raised by people for centuries that there your parents, blood or not and in that case…. What was Loki so upset about?

"You need to get over it," Stark said irritated as he flew back from the building he'd just been thrown into, "You aren't the first person to be adopted." Loki stopped and laughed. Deep, frantic laughter that sent chills up the Avenger's and the listening S.H.I.E.L.D agent's spines.

"Adopted," he said through his hysterical laughter, "Is that what you think this is about? I never cared that I was adopted. In fact it was pretty fucking obvious."

"Then why?" Thor said, giving the heartbreaking puppy eyes of doom, "Why do you do this brother?"

"DON'T CALL ME THAT," Loki screeched, the top of the abandoned building exploding into fiery chaos, "You lied to me."

"Aren't you the god of lies?" Hawkeye asked in confusion.

"You didn't think that with you banished to earth and fa… Odin in the Odinsleep that I would not seek them out?" Loki asked in a steely voice that sounded as if it were meant to slice to the very bone. Thor paled and looked very guilty for a second, his hammer trembling almost unnoticeably in his hand.

"Loki," he said softly, "I'm…." but he was cut of violently. It wasn't a fight, not anymore. It was a stand off with half of New York listening in.

"ENOUGH," he bellowed, "What was it you said, they'll be safe? The Norns say that if you stay together it means that Ragnork will descend? I will make sure that there happy and cared for? So long as you are my brother I'll allow no harm to come to them?" The bitterness that tainted his voice, the despair and madness mad them want to know, who exactly had Thor hurt?

"You don't…" Thor said in a choked voice, "The Apocalypse…."

"And who told you that?" Loki said darkly, "Because it was a lie, I went and asked the Norns myself. Odin, Odin lied." His eyes burnt with darkness and grief.

"Brother," Thor said pleadingly.

"YOU DON'T GET TO CALL ME THAT! You said so long as you were my brother that no harm would come to them and you killed them. You murderer my children," he hissed and everyone in vicinity visibly flinched at that, "What? Did you not tell your new friends?"

"I'm sorry," Natasha said in her super spy tone of fake empathy, even if she really was feeling sick to her stomach, "But you can't…"

"I can't?" Loki furiously, "Don't you dare tell me what I can and can't do, or that your sorry because unless you have children you have no idea. My sons were fifteen, twelve and eight, my daughter only five."

Thor started to ramble meaningless statements and useless platitudes that didn't mean a damn thing. That didn't do a damn thing to make any of it better.

"It doesn't matter. You keep speaking as if it matters. There dead, there is nothing that can change it. Nothing matters anymore," he said and that last line sounded so hollow and empty of anything that it echoed, grating like nails against a chalkboard, "When I let go, on the Bifrost… I wish that I had died."

Loki left and Thor cried, because for once… the god of lies was telling the absolute truth.

Ouch…. Bad Thor. I think this is going to stay a one-shot but I might get inspired to continue it. Oh, for all you Avengers/Thor/Supernatural fans I have a challenge/prompt:

For the last few thousand years Loki has had Gabriel stunt double for him, so when they want to arrest Loki after all the trouble he cause they weren't really expecting him to have a BAMF Arch Angel of the Lord boyfriend/best friend to bail him out.

PM me with the title if you attempt it.
