Out Of My Heart

The rain pattered on the window as Korra stared aimlessly at the ceiling from her bed.

The sheets kept her warm as she wrapped herself in them.

Why? Why did Tarrlok do it? Why did he had to kiss that woman?

She was just walking down the street as if it were a normal, average day, and then she saw Tarrlok on the other side. His lips pressed against someone else's that was not hers…

Everything else from that day was slow motion.

She didn't want to see anyone. She didn't want to talk to anyone. She didn't want to leave her room.

Was what they had together a big lie from the start? When Tarrlok said "I love you", did he actually mean it? What was it about her that didn't make him stop have a wandering eye?

The phone rang.

She didn't want to pick it up.

The voicemail began to play.

"Hey, this is Korra, I can't come to the phone right now, but if you leave a message, I'll get back to you as soon as I can. Peace out…! Bye!"

"Korra, it's me, Tarrlok. God, Korra, I didn't mean for you to see that. I was going to tell you everything later on this week, but you saw and… Korra, you know that I care about you, so much, okay. I didn't mean for you to get hurt, but you just kept going on and on about Mako when he was in that car accident, and you went to see him in the hospital so often, I… I just got so angry. I got angry at you, angry at Mako… I got angry at myself. I should have realized that if I were in your place, you wouldn't have done what I've done… and I messed everything up. I should never have doubted you in the first place. You're the one good constant thing in my life, and I messed up big time. … Please, Korra. Don't make me be alone again. It didn't mean anything… I didn't mean to. I love you, alright. I LOVE YOU. Please be alright…!"

She covered herself up between the sheets as she tried to repress a sob.

You have no idea what it means to actually love another person, because when you do, you would rather die than hurt them.

Tarrlok was so worried about getting hurt, it took them awhile to get together as a couple. But then she realized it was Tarrlok who was the one who destroyed others.

Letting someone into your heart was one thing.

Trying to get them out was another.
