AN: Oh, the much overdue Glee one-shot I promised like, years ago. I missed Glee so much, and had a random inspiration while watching the last episode. With Mr. Vocal Adrenaline, bwahaha. Just a short one.

Story info: glee | show face | Jesse St. James/Rachel Berry; unrequited | angst

Summary: He's going to put on the show face, just like it's expected. Even if it's killing him inside.

Disclaimer: I own nothing. Absolutely….. nothing. Lyrics belong to Switchfoot.

Jesse St. James. The name itself screamed stardom. The leader of the critically acclaimed Vocal Adrenaline. He was already given the pedestal; all he had to do was put on his show face.

But how? Vocal Adrenaline had given him such an easy task, and he already failed it. All he had to do was catch the heart of the star of the McKinnley High glee club, Rachel Berry. From what he had heard, it would have been so easy. Shake her hand, serenade her, and keep her thinking about him, done. But there was a catch.

How was he supposed to know that he would fall for her? He tried his absolute best to make her stay. He screamed out the words in his heart, even though there was no avail. Inside, he knew that she loved somebody else.

So he stood limply watching her walk away, from him and the future that they could have had. Her voice, it blended perfectly with his. There was no doubt that she was perfect for him. But a thought crept into his mind, 'what if somebody else was perfect for her?'

Welcome to the planet
Welcome to existence
Everyone's here
Everybody's watching you now
Everybody waits for you now
What happens next?

Jesse sat with the rest of Vocal Adrenaline. This was Regionals, not Nationals. He should not be so nervous. But the moment that New Directions was announced, he could not help but smile. Rachel had done anything and everything so that they could make it this far. It was only fair, that they would be the ones to challenge the great Vocal Adrenaline.

She looked beautiful, wearing a beautiful blue dress that brought out all of her best features. She looked into the eyes of the man beside her with a face of admiration that she had never given to Jesse. They began their set, with the spotlight set on Rachel. How proper.

As every song passed, he realized how happy she was. Whoever this man was, he was clearly making her happy. Soon enough, they were taking a bow, with their hands intertwined and the crowd loving every moment of it.

Jesse stood up with the rest of his group, politely clapped, and walked out of the hall and out of her life. If he had looked back, he would have seen a star dressed in blue, staring longingly at him.

Maybe redemption has stories to tell
Maybe forgiveness is right where you fell
Where can you run to escape from yourself?
Where you gonna go?

This was where he was happiest. Jesse found that performing in front of an audience took away every problem that he had. This was Regionals, and he was not going to give it to Rachel that easily. If they won, Jesse would be damned to have given up without a fight.

Three… two… one, showtime!

He stood idly, waiting for the curtains to open before him. He was going to give it his all tonight.

His show face always won them over.

Just not the one that mattered.

You say yes, I say no
You say stop, I say go
You say goodbye, and I say hello

First Glee fic. Bahahaha.
