Summary: "I don't like you Granger. Not anymore." He had to do it. It was the only way to make her safe.
Pairings: Draco Malfoy/ Hermione Granger
Timeline: 6th Year at Hogwarts (HBP)
He needs her. He wants her. He desires her.
But it isn't safe, and he needs her to be safe first.
So, he ignores the tearing pain in his heart; and he glares at her profile before him.
She looks at him, and she is so beautiful that it hurts. It hurts so bloody much.
But he has to. For her sake.
So he puts back on his mask, his previous mask of cold indifference. And he tells her.
"I don't like you, Granger. Not anymore."
And the magic's broken, and he feels her slap on his cheek; And he sees the furious look on her face, livid yet so distraught.
He brushes the weird feeling in the pit of his stomach away and watches as she storms from the room, leaving him alone.
He waits until the footsteps die down. And he drops on his knees, his unspoken speech continuing in whispers.
"I don't like you, Granger. I love you."
And he tries to reassure himself, through a new set of tears.
"I had to do it."
And the heart-wrenching sobs echo through the room and Draco Malfoy acknowledges this new feeling- heart-broken.
