Another songfic. Cuz why not, right?

Rude

"I will never accept this relationship. Lilly will find a nice man and marry him and that's that. I refuse to let my daughter marry a woman, I don't care home much either of you beg." The aging man stared me down firmly as he completely rejected the idea outright. I had been warned by both Akira, Lilly and even Shizune via Misha that this would most likely be the outcome. I had insisted anyway, hoping that they were all being pessimistic, but it would seem they were all correct. After a moment, I nodded and quickly straightened, refusing to show how his rejection had affected me as I grabbed Lilly's hand. The blonde seemed somewhat wilted from the words, but we were both completely resolved in this.

"I understand where you're coming from, Mr. Satou, I do, but I think you misunderstood our intentions." He raised a graying eyebrow, "We didn't come here to ask you if we can marry. Lilly and I are both adults with jobs and have been supporting ourselves and each other for several years. You aren't an authority to either of us. As such, we are not asking you if we can marry. We are telling you that we are getting married, with or without your approval. We are simply telling you that you are invited if you can let go of your pride long enough to walk your daughter down the aisle. If not, well, we can certainly find someone to stand in for you."

The man's jaw was practically on the floor by the end of the rehearsed speech. He spluttered, trying to form a reply through his rage, but I refused to let him spew anymore hurtful things about us in our presence.

"You know how to reach us if you would like to attend. Good day, Mr. Satou." I pulled Lilly with me out of the office and out of the building and into our parked car.

"Well, that could have gone much better." I sighed as I started the car.

"Well, to be fair, this is kind of what Akira and I were expecting." Lilly comforted me, trying to pretend her father's rejected hadn't affected her as much as I knew it had.

"Hopefully he'll come around before the wedding. If not, well... we'll figure something out. If nothing else, we can bond over having the same last name." I giggle and leaned across to wrap my arms around her.

"You handled it better than I expected. To be honest, I was kind of expecting to have to say all of that." She teased, "It's weird to see you with a spine."

"What can I say, I just couldn't believe he would actually be so rude."

End
