A/N-I don't own the Hunger Games, and it's highly unlikely that I ever will. Also, in case you don't understand the last line, it's not meant to be concrete. If you have any trouble understanding, feel free to ask me.

A is for apple,

Hanging, poisoned, on a tree,

One little bite,

Will stifle you and me.

B is for blood,

Pooling all around,

Emptying small children,

Lying on the ground.

C is for crawling,

Trying to get away,

And C is for Career,

Bringing your last day.

D is for death,

Light fading from their eyes,

The Capitol keeps cheering,

As every child dies.

E is for eternal,

The pain won't go away.

The memories will haunt you,

Until your dying day.

F is for fire,

That blisters tender skin,

And painfully ends a life,

And burns the darkness in.

G is for gamble,

As sponsors bet and fund,

Forgetting that all their "losses",

Are children whose lives are done.

H is for Hell,

A place of fear and pain,

Where you cry out in the dark,

Of things you can't explain.

I is for icicle,

Frozen little knife,

Sharp and cold and perfect,

For taking someone's life.

K is for killing,

A very common thing,

When one is in the Hunger Games,

Where knives and arrows swing.

L is for light,

A source of joy or fear,

As you sit around a fire,

Or as it glints off your last tear.

M is for murder,

A word of some debate.

Is murder simply just to kill?

Or is the definition not quite so straight?

N is for never,

To see the light of day,

To smile, to sing, to marry,

To laugh again, to play.

O is for outcast,

For all the things you've done,

Even though it was do or die,

They hate you because you've won.

P is for paranoid,

Fear that drives you mad.

It's sleepless nights and evil dreams,

The lost peacefulness you had.

Q is for quantifiable,

People reduced to numbers,

Statistics scrolling on the screen,

So impersonal to others.

R is for ready,

Which you may think you are.

But as I believe that you will find,

It takes cruelty to go far.

S is for silence,

Hanging like death itself,

As the lack of screams shows silenced dreams,

And cruel injustice dealt.

T is for torture.

They won't just let you die.

They parade you, slowly fading,

Before you can flee to the sky.

U is for uncaring,

As they watch the Hunger Games,

Whether with relish or gladness it wasn't them,

They just shut out the names.

V is for vultures,

The vile carrion crow,

Who longs to eat the bodies,

Of children laid so low.

W is for water,

Without which you will die,

But unless you risk your life in the search,

You'll only find the water you cry.

X is for xenocracy,

When your government is bad,

Practically another country,

For whom murder is a fad.

Y is for young,

Not one is over eighteen,

Children still and always to be,

Lest murder make their souls unclean.

And as for Z,

Now Z my friend,

Is whatever you want it to be.

If you can't feel in your own heart what Z is,

Then there's nothing you can learn from me.
