An Adventure in the Making

"Come on, we'll be late!" Markus heard a voice penetrate the cloud of his dreams. It was such a pretty voice. Wait what? He flung his eyes open and whipped up out of bed. Standing in the door was his best friend, Lucille, better known as Lucy. "Hey Luce, late for what?" Markus asked. Lucy put her hands on her hips. "Do you know what time it is?" She asked, provoking Markus to look at his watch (which he always slept with) and realize how late in the morning it was. "Oh shoot!" he cried. Lucy sat down on his desk and waited for her buddy to get dressed and get going. It's going to be a long day, she thought, as he heard him fumble for his jeans.

After a day of intense training involving sword fighting, (which Markus enjoyed) and Archery, (which Lucy enjoyed), the two friends were sitting on the beach near the water. It was nice to sit down and do nothing for a while. Markus Miles, the son of Hermes, and Lucy Verne daughter of Apollo. Markus was unique in that he happened to be skilled in the sword and the knife, so he carried both with him. He didn't bother to christen the sword and knife, because he didn't want to become too attached to them. Lucy always carried her wristband with her-the stretchy cloth ones-not the rubber ones. This wristband was special in that both of them wore it. It was nothing special, just a blue and green striped neat little thing. Today Markus' wristband was receiving special attention from him. He kept on pulling it, because of he thought this morning. I've never thought of her as pretty. I haven't looked at her this way before… Markus cast a glance at his friend. Lucy was laying back, the cool breeze blowing through her dirty blonde hair, the sun shining on her pale skin. She had her eyes closed, and being the impulsive speaker that he was, Markus blurted: "You're cute." Lucy's eyes flew open as she stared at Markus. "What was that?" she asked, raising her eyebrows in question. Markus's cheeks turned a shade of red. "Nothing." He muttered. "Oh." Lucy said softly. After a few awkward seconds she said hastily, "You are too." Markus laid his head down in embarrassment.

The awkward silence that followed suit was deafening. Markus couldn't stand it. He was saved by his pal, Prism, a.k.a. Charles Priory, son of Athena. Charles happened to be walking on the beach when he saw his buddies sitting down together. "Hullo! Mark, Lucy!" he shouted, running down the shore. He saw Markus's head turn, and thought he saw the faintest traces of a blush. He ignored the fact, and knew that sooner or later Mark and Lucy would be a "thing". Prism came up next to them and plopped down on the sand. "Hey Prism, got any food?" Prism always has food. He shoved his hands in his pocket and pulled out some crushed toaster pastries (still in packaging) and gave it to both of them. Mark and Lucy ripped it open and both grabbed a piece. Their fingers brushed against each other, and they both recoiled slightly. Prism just smiled, and shook the wrapper, gesturing for them to eat some.

Prism smiled inwardly as they bickered over who got the first piece of cinnamony sugary goodness. This was going to be a great summer.
